lost title for a car, what do I do?

Anyone know how to go about getting a new title for a car that has not been registered or insured for 7-8 years? No old registration cards or anything... oh and its not mine but it will be once we get a copy of the title. The car came from my wifes aunt. She has no idea where the title is and doesnt really want to be bothered with trying to get it. Honestly she is just too lazy to go get it for me so I have to do the leg work. I told her I would get it, and if I do, I get the car for free.

Long story short its a 94 Beretta, 3100 V6, 93,000 miles and she just stopped driving it in 2001. Its been in her driveway ever since. I took it and now I get to fix it up and sell it. But I need a title.

I have a total of $100 (new battery and cleaning supplies) into the car now and today I took it for a spin. Runs great and just needs some more cleaning and waxing. It needs a few small odds and ends. I am going to try and hit a junk yard for some of the broken items.

Brain, in PA you can request a duplicat title. They will send it to the owners address. Might be the same in NJ.

Bri, in jersey you can file for a lost title at the DMV. Takes a little time to get. Don't need the reg. or anything. I have done it before so if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. John
