I need new TV service, help me pick!

Ok, long story.

I have had Comcast at the new house since Febuary. It ransfered service to the new house and they gave be the new customer price of $29.99 /month for 6 months. Awsome!. 6 months ended and went to regular price of $60/ month. I called and asked if there were any other specials because $2 a day for the 6 channels I watch was rediculious. They said no and I was not eligible for anything for at least 90 days after being on a "special" price. So its been 90 days and I called back. Guess what. The guy in the "upgrade" department answered in 30 sec.... couldnt help me said I needed to talk to the "downgrade" department. I waited on hold for 30 min

Guy answered and basically told me there were no specials. I said I see them on TV $30 a month for 6 months? He said only for new customers. I asked what do you have for current loyal paying customers? He said nothing... we already have you at regular price. Its advertising and marketing to lure in new customers. I said shut my crap off I am no longer a good loyal paying customer. Maybe I can call back later to be a "new" customer. He said no sorry sir you are not eligible for 90 days.

C-ya....

So I am looking for new service that doesnt cost an arm and a leg for 400 channels of nothing.

What other dish services are out there and what are you using? I dont care for the 4000 sports channels. I only watch local sports, local channels, and maybe 10 other channels.

When in the world are they going to let us buy only the channels we want to see? Why can I not call another cable TV service for tv here? Isnt that called a monopoly? I can call 10 different phone companies to make my phone ring why ony 1 cable company for my TV?

I realize there are satalite providers but is that the same?

Oh, whats the worst that could happen if I happen to tip the guy $50 to forget to unhook the wire outside

Oh and check this out... very intresting reading if you got some time. At the least just play the video at the beginning. Sounds like I am not alone in my cable TV rant!

I put up a post over there and I want to see if they call me or even care I just shut it all off?

Yea comcast is a bunch of scumbags, being that im in apt. im pretty stuck w/ them. There HD channel package is only an additional $175.00's a mth ...and the basic HD box is about 7 bucks extra and they give you just about nothing. There on demand is another joke all in itself, if your a fan of movies you've never heard then your in luck, on top of that they never change them. Ive had both dish services at other houses and I think i liked direct tv better. Is vios available near you, my mother had that for awhile and they give you a ton of channels.

no VIOS isnt here yet... Verizon offers Direct TV in its place for me but I'm not sure I want it.

After researching it seems like they all know how to get ya if you know what I mean. They totally know what are the good channels and what just plain stinks. They barely offer a few in the basic package so you have to buy 27 upgrades to get the ones you want. All have gimicks as well. Direct TV has a huge thing on their website. $29.99! $34.99, $44.99!!!! ect... till you read the fine print. Only with automatic payment from your bank account and $xxx per box is additional ect...

Seriously here is a list from DTV for their $34.99 +$5 for each box and +5 for the bank account thing. $50a month for me.

I swear all I want is someone to give me a list and let me pay for only the channels I want. I would have under 20 total and 750 channels in this world would go out of buisness! I seriously am having a hard time to count up 15 from that list.

Well my other half flipped out and I had to call Comcast back to turn it on again. At this point I am so fed up with pushing a car payment out the door every month for phone, internet and cable that I could throw up. I just want to turn it all off and go get an antenna for tv and use only a single cell phone with no options. The interweb can go in the trash for all I care. I can get my fix at work for free.

BTW, Verizon isnt much better. Maybe the TV is but their CS is horrible. I had some billing issues when I first moved. Took me 4 months to get it straight and well over 60 phone calls. They just bounce you from department to department and never actually get you someone who can address the issue.

My neighborhood has underground wires. The Comcast wires run to a box on the side of the house. I told my wife all I have to do is cancel it and wait for them to come out to shut it off. After they leave go over to the box and plug it back in and its free! She wont let me steal it. The box isnt even lockable!!! Nothing more than a splitter inside it with the connection to the street... We wont get digital but the TV would be free.

Maybe its me. I have no problem only having tv for 6 months at a shot. I am more than happy to shut it off to get the "new customer" rate in 90 days.

You should be able to get some kind of discount.

I called and complained last week because our "intro" rate was up. We did a 12 month triple-play deal. I called to have the phone turned off because the only people that call it are solicitors (most of them were political).

Our triple play was $99/month plus DVR and some other options. Our monthly bill was about $150 when all taxes and fees were added in.

I am now paying $110 for the SAME service (less the phone) with all fees added in. You should be able to get something knocked off. You can't get angry with them though. Sweet talk them.

EDIT: Our problem with switching companies is that we HAVE TO HAVE Comcast sportsnet. We cannot live without Flyer's games, Phillies games, etc. Verizon is working on a deal to offer Comcast sportsnet but it won't go through for a few years.

Thats alot more channels then im getting w/ cablevision...go for it...Only had problems w/ them when it rained real hard...though this was 2-3 years ago. Avoid cablevision at all costs.

I dont think I can get cablevision. Its Comcast or the road. I hate Comcast with a passion but not much of a choice. I sat and read the page of fine print with DTV and its all bull... Not going to get them either I dont think. As of now Comcast is back on because Liz flipped out and has to have TV. I could care less and I wish I could drive a truck full of cable wire thru their showroom.

I'm done being nice Jax... I'm going to call every day, over and over, and demand I speak with someone higher and higher till I get the same price as everyone else. If it takes me 2 years I will keep calling to get my discount like the guy next door.

A couple of years ago Rick called Comcast for something. I can't remember what it was exactly but it had something to do with the cable box itself and some kind of fee.

He said he was going to cancel the service and she calmly said there would still be a fee to turn it off because they have to come out and get the box or whatever. Rick said to her in his calmest voice ever "what if I bring the box to you and throw it through the front window?" She nicely replied with "then we would have to charge for a new box all together." It was hilarious.

When you call, do you call the cancellation or downgrade department? Seriously, if you're nice you can usually get somewhere. Ask them what they can do for you because the prices are outrageous. And keep on them... "I know you can do something for me. I know people who have called and gotten their rates lowered - even if it was temporary..."

I called the "upgrade" department. Funny thing was "cant help you sir, I dont handle those concerns".

You can never, ever, ever get someone on the line who can help. Or who wants to help. Thats how they operate... push em off to someone else who cant help. Seriously I should have recorded the calls to Verizon.

I signed up for a bundle or whatever it is they call it. Got my first bill and there was no discount so I called. Phone people said the discount was to be applied to the internet so here talk to them. Internet people said the phone people have to tellus to give the discount. No joke I spent over 3 hours and bounced back and forth 16 times before I told them to cancel it all. They said no problem just drop off the equipment at the office. I told them it will be on my porch and the only way you are getting it back is to pick it all up before it rains. If I bring it to the office I will only deliver a video of me smashing it all to bits with my car. I then was transfered to the disconnect people. There they started asking questions again and I just kept saying turn it off. The girl asked what would it take to keep me and I said all I want is my discount you prommised and the $70 for the advertised free modem which you sent me a bill for. She gave it to me and gave me 3 months of free service so I kept it.

If I ever have to call again it will be to turn it all off for good.

I have been plesent with Comcast many times. I tried the sweet talk aproach too many times. Now I'm just plain pissed off and I cant use the words I want to on here cause it will be nothing but **************. The price thing is not a problem from them or anything but the attidue I get on the phone is that we dont care about paying customers. I'm out to prove a point now even if its only a $60 one.

I'm at the end of my rope with them. Liz said we have to keep it, I said fine you deal with em I am done. I'm going to keep calling till I get my discount. Its unfair to advertise a price and hide crap in fine print. Who cares if I am new or not... you put an add on TV that said $29.99 a month now I want it.

I'm tired of paying $1000's every year to have a crap load of channels I dont watch shoved down my throat and then have to watch half of it as commercials. I wish Ihadsome money I would start a new service that was the same price as cable/dish service today with ZERO commercials and all channels have an option to be bought individually.

I'd be a hero.

I love my FIOS. I have a personal issue with Comcast and will not give them money as long as I have other options.

You really need to talk to the "downgrade" or "cancellation" department.

I have been thinking of dropping Charter Cable and going for a Satellite service as well... the prices are jsut getting carried away for what you get. Out of 40 channels. only about 30 of them actually have anything worthwhile. I do not need things like god tv, or qvc or any of the BS... It would be nice to just pay for the channels you want. it can not be THAT hard to get a setup that would allow such. But it is all greed based anyhow for advertising and such.
