i might trade the SS
i might trade the SS
ok guys talk me out of this one!
i've been looking at buying a used 4x4 truck the past couple of weeks. i was looking at a 2001 or 2002 silverado, ram and dakota. my friends then maybe gave me a wake up call saying..eric what are you nuts!!!!! if you trade that car in you will miss it so much!!!!!!! and then i thought about it and said you know what there right! there were some things i would miss so here they are:
1. the t-tops being off in the hot summer
2. the speed
3. and of course hanging out with all my friends at the track or at the park watching brian burning the rubber of his rims

so what should i do guys..buy a junk truck or sell the ss and buy a nice used 4x4 truck?

Dont get an absolut junker justsomething decent like an older silverado or k1500-3500 pickup. Something with a SBC that you can play with and still have 4wd. Thats what I ended up doing. I only payed 1500 for mine w/4wd

Just buy a used truck, the ones coming off leases are 1/2 the price of new ones. Keep the SS. Once the weather breaks you will be sorry you sold the SS!
I drive my truck 90% of the time, but there is NOTHING like getting behind the wheel of the Z!
TRUST ME!

E, I gotta say the same. Dont ditch the SS!!! When spring hits you will want the car back.
Just an idea, but have you thought about doing something like I did? I bought a 98 silverado used with only 65000 miles on it. If you keep an eye out you can find them out there for VERY reasonable prices. Now I have the best of both worlds... a nice clean 4x4 extended cab truck to drive in everyday use and I still have the Z as my toy. My silverado has so far treated me as if it were new and I only paid 14K for it... You cant even buy a "like new" car for that nowadays.
If you dont mind buying a truck with a few more miles on it you can easily find a good clean used truck for under 10K that will be reliable and get the job done. Just look on autotrader.com and you can find tons of good clean used trucks.
If your really set on a newer truck, there are tons of fresh off lease trucks out there for 1/2 the price of new. Not knowing your budget makes it hard to say, but I vote for keeping the SS and buying a used truck to have fun with. in the end you have a back up vehicle incase 1 or the other would happen to break down.... which in my eyes is a big bonus.
My friend Just bought an 88 Ram 250 with a plow and spreader for $2500. Now hes making money on the side with it and has a second vehicle as a back up. Oh, and the other bonus, make the truck you "primary" vehicls and your ins will drop. Joe is payin half of what he used to and now has 2 vehicles
BTW, the project is under the knife and should be ready for some major tire smoke by the time warm weather hits

Well, ask me if I miss my 93 Indy Pace Car. Yes, I definitely miss the car, but it was a value issue for me. It was getting so hard to keep it in show condition to keep the value up that I decided to get what I could for it while it was still in good shape. These last 2 winters have been the first cold winters we've had in years so you probably feel like getting a truck. Next winter might be mild with little or no snow and salt and you'll want to drive the SS every chance you can. Don't sell the car. If you do, you'll miss it right away and it will cost more to find an equal replacement. Now if there was only a way to make a hand reach through the computer screen and slap you out of it!
I was in the same boat as you. I bought a nice used 98 F150 4x4 with offroad package w/super cab, pic in the sig. You can get a descent one for prob 13G's or so, nothing to fancy. I love my truck,

Can't do that in a fbody,
.
Oh, and if you get yourself a nice truck, you can do some plowing/tree removal to make some money on the side,
. Just get a bed liner so you don't beat up the truck to bad.

Eric,
Bit early for April 1st. I sent your info to
Bedlam Asylum. Hopefully they'll be catching up with you shortly and get you in for treatment right away. Electro Shock Therapy works wonders.
F-body season is coming; picnincs with the fresh smell of Brian burning rubber, E-town mayhem, turnpike terrorizing trips, hooters, just to name a few. The SS will be greatly missed.
Please get help. You are just going through a phase and we are all here to help you. We will be your support group, you idiot. Walk through the door and be one of us now... having a fair-weather / garage queen to mod (sub-frames on the way for me and maybe gears) the holy hell out of while you drive a Truck / SUV (Tahoe
) / Mini-van / insert-other-beater-type-here.
I had a loaded '84 TA. Got rid of it. Missed it. Missed it. Missed it. Missed it times another ten years. Carol finally got me the '97to shut me up.
