I need to vent... I just got a speeding ticket. I got called into work this morning and after a long morning I was on my way home. Heading north on 95 I get off at the Comadore Barry Bridge. Next thing I know I am being pulled over. The cop must have had a bad Thanksgiving cause he was rude as hell. "I'm stopping you for speeding and now your gonna get a ticket for it"

He clocked me at 66... little did I know that the exit raps are a 45mph zone and he wrote me for 66 in a 45. Not even a small break. If he had just wrote it for 64 it would have cut the ticket in half and only 2 pts. But now I have a 4 pt ticket and a $200 fine. I mean I just got off of 95... should I have come to a complete stop before getting on the off ramp?

I hate cops who have nothing better to do than to give out tickets that are questionable...

 

I'm a cop, but he sounds like an a$$hole...Its been a few years since I worked patrol, but even then I never really did write many speeding tickets. If I wrote you a speeding ticket it was only because the driver was an a$$ and gave me crap, or the occasional fool who would fly passed me on the highway while I was in a marked police car and then ask, "What'd you stop me for?"

I figured that I drive fast so why am I going to write tickets to people for doing what I do. Paper is paper, a warning would've been a stat for him just the same...He's the kind of cop that gives the rest of us a bad name. You have a-holes in every line of work, but with Police one a-hole makes us all look bad...Go to court...If your driving record aint too bad you may get a lesser fine/points...maybe the cop won't show....Good luck...

last ticket i had was reduced to 14 over to make it a 2 pt. violation.

unless the law was changed anything from 15-29 over is 4 points but its been awhile since my last ticket a plan to keep it that way.



go to court and offer to pay a fine instead of getting points.

I don't see how he could get you doing 66 on an off-ramp. If the ramp has any curve to it then he couldn't get a straight shot on you. If it's a straight off-ramp then he could've gotten you.

 

Ask to pay a non-moving viiolation..like parking on the pavement..it might be worth bringing a lawyer with you. Usually they just want your hard earned $$$$....don't care about insurance..unless the cop might have a hard on for raising your insurance rates...

It was a DRPA cop... I think he was having a bad day cause right from the begining he was just plain ignorant. He was a SGT... and he made me very aware of that fact as soon as he walked up to my window. I figure he was miserable because he had to work on Saturday and all the younger lower ranks were off.

I mean I was at fault. The off ramp is basically straight for about 1/4 mile and then it curves off to the right real slow before getting to the 45* turn onto the bridge. He was sitting at the turn clocking people as they slide over from the highway onto the "off ramp". Now truthfully I am at fault. The off ramp is a 45 zone. But a good 1/3 mile of it is actually part of I95... Only thing seperating the "off ramp" and 95 is a line of paint. He clocked me before I was even on the bridge itself. He got me on the ramp, followed me all the way to the other side and pulled me over on the NJ side.

If you follow the law to the letter I was at fault, but honestly, its nothing more than a speed trap. Everybody and their mother comes off the 95 lanes onto the "off ramp" at speeds of 60mph +. Heck if your only doing 60 on 95 then your probably going to get run over. And you sure can slow down to 45 on I95 before going to the ramp. When I was on 95 I was doing 75-80 and getting passed like I was standing still. But I was in the right lane waiting for the exit to come up. He knew it was a good trap, he probably does it himself everyday. But he said and I quote "since you were in a large vehice (2500HD Silverado) and in the "express lane", you deserve a ticket."

I tried to be kind to him and everything I said he had some smart comment for me. "I honestly didnt know the off ramp speed limit started that far back, I didnt see a sign" He says " well thats not my fault, you have a speedometer right there in your face... you should look at it once and a while. My limit is 19 over and you were doing 21 over... now you are getting a ticket for it"

The court date is Dec 21st... I'm going to go to court and see if I can get the points dropped. I do have 2 pts already on my record, but I cant afford any more. My insurance is going to go out the roof. My wife and I pay 2000/year for her hunk of junk carola and a Yukon. With 4 more pts I bet it goes up $500.

Car insurance will then be $200+ a month. For what... a piece of paper that sits in my glove box? I have had 1 auto ins claim in 13 years. I would have been better off just taking my chances. You dont have to be a NJ politician to figure out why so many people in NJ just drive without insurance. Is just too damn expensive. and 1 or 2 mistakes on the road and you pay for it out the *** for the next 5 years...

 

unless the law changed recently, in pa only state troopers can use radar, so you would have had to roll thru a vascar trap. dont know what drpa is?

 

Yea State police can only use radar DRPA= Delaware River Port Authority if I recall.

Aparently DRPA can use radar too. I'm gonna go fight it. I got nothing to lose right now. Thw worst that can happen is that I get no mercy from the court and I end up with the same fine and points on my license.

 

you should have asked to see his records on radar to see if they up to date..you know you have the right to request that when you are pulled over

 

at the court hearing too, notice of discovery its called, but you will have to go back to court again after that.

 

I feel your pain, every time I would get a ticket, I would always be angry at the cops. Then in a matter of a month both my wallet and then later my identity was stolen and it was the police that were helping me out so it changed my view quite a bit.

 

well, if you didnt lose your wallet, you would still have the pleasure of displeasure of being pissed at the cops

 

Yeah I know. I'm not really mad at all cops. Its just that one who pissed me off cause he acted like his badge made him a better person than me. I was just venting, but I really do belive I should have been let go with a warning.
