Header gasket part two...
Header gasket part two...
Latest update on the 97 TA;
Pampered-z graciously stopped over and once again we pulled the passenger side header off and replaced the gasket. Blown out around the #2, most front, collector.
We got all back together nice and purty, but John said wait until "tomorrow" before starting the car up to let the copper-coat sealant and permatex to cure. Either that or was giving himself a good head start to get out of the country...
So I'm itching to get out of work early today to start the car up to see if we have fixed this exhaust leak once and for all... I'm in need of setting off some car alarms.

Mr Gasket.
Still not right, though. I disconnected the battery neg cable for over five minutes. That cleared the flashing SES. The SES stayed for awhile after I restarted the car back up, let it idle for a bit, drove about a 1/4 mile, floored it, let off the gas pedal and then the SES came back on. Then backfiring again. Has better response than it did before the last gasket repaiir. In fact, the car chirp the wheels going into 2nd again. I wonder if I should just go ahead and get the PCM and tuned to see if that helps...
Still, it causes all the young boys in the neighborhood to line the curb and smile real big when I drove it out on the street.

ron,
when the ses light flashes it means its more severe and should be checked out asap. (at least what i was told) take it somewhere to get scanned. (auto zone or local dealership) i almost bet you its that damn coil.....any hesitation upon accel? hows the throttle responce? just get that code on a scanner..

John.. I took it out onto rt152 north and it chirp tires and what not. It seems to have power. But it's all a guessing game until either 1) someone scans the code(s) 2) I buy something like this; http://www.digimoto.com/ or 3) I send the PCM to MadZ28 and let Ion see what is up.

Same as any other day.
I also have another problem when I drive the car now with the exhaust. I get an andredeline rush and a woody, Is that normal with the new headers? How do I fix those?
I am still going ahead and do a sound recording tomorrow for the "after" sound. No one is going to smell the rich exhaust over the internet.

wire... coil... O2 sensor... ugh.

Ron, ask you wife.
Re: Header gasket part two...
yeah check ur wires, the opti has an odd wire settup , it should be labeled, coils dont tend to go bad,
ICM could be a problem
i would put my money on it being a wire/mixed up wire problem
if that doesnt work, use autotap and check out what ur 02s are doing, i had a bad 02 problem, it would run rough misfire, pop in the exhaust , backfire all that crap
