Cool Good Start This Year

Not great, but good! Yesterday was the first points race for 2007 at Atco Raceway. I went out third round to Anthony Fetch; who went on to win the show. I guess it was his night! He is a GREAT driver!

Anyway, last year I never made it out of second round. I did not throw down any stellar packages, but they say it's better to be lucky than good! Hopefully, this is a sign of what's to come for me.

The car was running 10.0's deep staged. Before first round we changed the chip to 6500 to slow it down because I don't have my license. I went a 10.065 and a 10.077 first and second rounds. Third round it PICKED UP (cooler and in the left lane - I usually run the right lane). I was going a 9.99!!! The 9.93 in my signature was shallow staged, with my dad's carb (car runs better on that one) and about 40* out. Yesterday, with the right shift points (7200) I could have been deep into the 9.80's. I think I need to get my license!

CONGRATS Jax. Nice to hear you made it into the $$$$ round. Not easy especially at Atco. IMO I don't think you would have any more advantage running high 9's than keeping the car at 10.0. The only time you have issues and have to slowing it down is early or late in the season. As you know you will slow with the warmer weather. I don't think its worth all the extra costs associated with a sub 10.0 car "only" to go high 9's. Further you should be able to judge a 9.0 car and be able to back-in on the top end.

Thanks guys!

I already have everything I need to go 9's - just need a physical and the passes. I would really love to go low 9's eventually - I enjoy chasing.

Congrads! Sounds like Dad needs to get a new carb for himself. I'm going to try running points this year. This is going to be interesting for sure! I only made about 7 passes in the car last year due to me breaking stuff. So just making it past first round is my only real goal.

Do to my excessive slowness I've become better at being chased than chasing. I'll be looking for ya in my mirrors.

Are you going to make any trips down to Atco this year?

I'm signed up for the PINKS ALL OUT competition at the Grove in May but it does fall on a points race. If I'm still doing half decent, I'll skip the PINKS gig and run at Atco.

Yea I still have to make supension changes and test the firebird before points start at the Grove. Maybe on the 24th. I need to add .020 - .030 to the car's launch to be able to hit the Grove's lights. The rollout is different at Atco but I should be able to adjust and Bud offered to help. I do have a zero racing budget this season or I would of been down several times already. Nothing like comming down to the shark tank for some T&T. Since I'm not signed up for points I may scrape my toll money together and double enter (street and pro).

Nice runs!!!! I too wish I could say I had to slow my car down to 10.00

Good luck this season. I am again not signing up because I just cant dedicate the time to be there at the end. Plus I dont have a car yet. I hope to have it running soon and I will be down for a race or 2 but the baby has been taking up alot of my time lately. I should have figured that huh? lol...

Thanks Brian. I understand the baby thing... is it horrible that Rick and I have been seriously rethinking having children?? We really enjoy racing and don't want to give it up! We're terrible.

Let us know when you're coming down so we can save you a spot!
