I would love to go to protech, but driving my car with knock for 100 miles is something that concerns me.

Do you have KR all the time or only when the engine is under load? If its all the time you have a loose bolt or something. Part throttle(with very light load) the engine should never KR. Check you engine for something loose. If you can't find anything even an exhaust leak then you could possibly have a problem inside the engine. How much KR are you seeing?? Second as a side note: All motors make noise and knock sensors sometimes pick up noise and retard timing for no reason. Usually this is because mechanical noise inside the engine is loud enough for detection. ie rocker noise or valve noise from weakened springs or even lifters. If you want give me a call and I will go over it with you.

BTW: I personally ignore the Knock sensor for two reasons. Most engines never came with them and they ran fine ( false knock is a huge issue) and secondly if you are racing and your knock sensor goes crazy its to late. The engine is already toast. KR is only good if you get a tank of bad gas. After that it is a waste of time.

Vince..just had heads and cam installed. The car is running rich, right bank getting more fuel than the left. They are 32lb injectors. I connected a scanner and scanned the car while driving. Know was 4-6 degrees constant. The heads and cam was a success, the guy who put the car together is a certified tech and has his own shop....very qualified, we took a week and did it right. The rockers were adjusted according to speak and everything was torqued to spec. When I start the car, you can smell the fuel...very rich. The know was picked up on the scanner. If I drove to Mississauga, would that do any damage to the engine? I really would not wanna risk it, have too much $$$ invested. What does your schedule look like for this weekend or next? thanks...

also, the car is running very rich, even at half throttle. Would running rich and fowling plugs show KR? Possible?

Running rich can cause KR. The excessive rich condition can cause backfireing within the cylinder that can be deteched as KR. Does the motor run smooth?? Probably it has fouled the plugs a little and the sensor is picking up the miss as a knock. That is my best guess from across the computer screen

I fouwled plugs and replaced with new ones and wires.....it is running rich as I crank it over....if I run it at 2,000 rpms, she runs ok....1.5k, gets jerky....what is the schedule like at protech? What openings do you guys have? ASAP?

Vince, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I just began a new job a few months....dont have a day off that I can take. My only option would be to drive out on a Saturday in the morning. Looks like I am going to get shafted in buying the lt1 edit software for 200 and the damn cable for another 100 then get charged for 300 dyno time. This sucks

Hawk, just a heads up.....

You dont need to drop $300 to buy LT1 Edit and the cable if Vince is tuning it. He has his own software. Tune it and be done. The only thing you wouldnt be able to do is change the program yourself (the nice thing about LT1 Edit). But for $300 to have your car tuned right, and by a shop that builds 7 sec cars, its worth it. Not to mention that I know Vince personally and he has been a good friend of mine for over 6 years....and he has tuned probably 50 LT1 cars....

Wow. You really don't get it. You are about to spend more money on a bad tune. My advice? Watch out for boost-a-pump. Good luck to you.
