atco question

http://www.atcorace.com/artman/publish/article_385.php

does that mean you have to run from 13.99 to 12.00 being the limit? so anything faster than a flat 12 is a breakout?

This is only for a special event. Its a 12.0 Index. Just like bracket racing only you have to put 12.0 as your dial-in and its on a pro .500 tree. Its heads up because both cars are "dialed" 12.0. They also have a 10.0 index, and 8.50 index. There are a bunch of rules for the cars too. They must be "street appearance".

The other races are normal brackets.

Yea reaction time makes a huge difference. Pro .500 all 3 yellows go off at same time, .500 later the green light comes on.

Re: atco question

Reaction time is ALWAYS an important factor in ANY kind of drag racing.

Re: atco question

Even in "heads up" racing you need a good reaction time. The first car to cross the finish line will have left the starting line as quickly as possible.

Do you watch NHRA pro drag racing on Sunday nights??? Ever heard of a "whole-shot" win? That means that the car who won had a slower ET but a quicker reaction time... For example:

John Force runs a 4.60 with a .050 reaction time to WIN the race.
Ron Capps runs a 4.58 with a .150 reaction time to LOSE the race.

It happens all the time. There is NO FORM OF RACING where reaction time doesn't matter. Clocks or no clocks, you NEED to react quickly or it could cost you the race.

And Jim is right, Atco does have heads up racing. They run the Quick 8 race usually on the last Thursday night of the month but not always. Check the schedule. Cecil and Etown also run a Q8 race. Atco also had Index racing for those that do not have the budget to build a sub 7 second car to run with the big dogs in the Q8. The Index classes include 12.0, 10.0 and 8.5 categories. This is still bracket racing but you don't get to choose your dial in and you run on a pro tree rather than a full tree. Again though, if you're opponent reacts quicker than you, he/she already has a huge advantage and could most likely cross the finish line first...

Re: atco question

Scott,

We have to get a group together to rent out Atco for a day. If get nearly dozen or more people it's like $150 each. This way you can practice RT's for hours on end.
