All NJ people inside!!!
All NJ people inside!!!
I heard that our a**hole govnerner wants to pass a new law that says if you get 4 points on your license, your car insurence gos up 50%!!!!!! We need to call our assemblymen to stop this, it's insane!
Thats news to me. I havent heard that yet. If its true... we are in trouble.
Insurance is so high in NJ because the insurance fraud around here is insane. The fraud and uninsured rates are so high because people cant afford the insurance...

I saw that in the paper the other day...
Good drivers would go down 1.8%.. [BIG deal!]....bad drivers up 50%[not sure I recall it saying up 50% for 4 pts tho..]
What the article said also, it would change the threshold for higher ins from 6 pts to 4? So it would be higher for 4 pts... [but not sure 50% for just that?]

To clarify my above post... yes it said UP TO 50% for 'bad drivers'... what I am not sure of is, if just getting 4 pts gets you to 50%? Follow? Hopefully NOT...[ hopefully it'll take much worse stuff to get to 50%!..]
Still outrageous... and that 1.8% savings for good driver... what an insult!
[Basically they are claiming there are 30 'bad drivers' for each 'good one'?... [50/1.8... BS!]

That's crap. It'd be a big mistake to do that. I don't see why we can't get insurance policies like other states have. There are some crazy laws or something that make a lot of people not want to do business in NJ....
Ok,
I don't know the Governor's plan, but people all around me, mild mannered sedan and truck owners with no points (some who have never had a ticket nor accident) are getting notices that their policies will not be renewed (no reasons given).
What they say (The Coalition for Auto Insurance Competition)
This is a transcript of the recent NJ "State of the State" for those who didn't see it (myself included), towards to end the Governor talks about the Auto Insurance issue...
What McGreevey said
It's been pretty bad in our state for years; I think that perhaps an aggressive plan of action is needed. As for those with high points, I really don't know what to tell you, "slow down"? - I think that's a pretty cheap shot, so don't take it seriously... It seems to me that the main problem is with auto insurance fraud, not speeders - Hell, speeder pay a great deal for their insurance coverage - we just need to continue to route out the uninsured, or better still those with bogus insurance cards...

NY's system is more corrupt than our's. Two years ago I recieved a ticket on Long Island for 72 in a 55. I went to court to fight it, and got the fine reduced to a seatbelt ticket and $150, or so I thought.
When I went to get my new policy through Allstate, I was informed that I had a 5 point Tailgating ticket on my records in NY. This carried down as a 4 point violation, and compounded my already astronomical rates. When I inquired with NY about the problem and explained that it would be illogical to trade a simple speeding ticket for a 5 point violation, they simply said I would have to get a lawyer and come back to court. Bullsh*t. Now, unless I pay a lawyer and go back to court, i have to live with 4 points for another year. This, and I already have a no-fault accident on my record. Even though I was totally helpless to prevent the accident, I still get screwed.
I already paid $4800 a year, now due to "Jersey mandated rate increases" I pay $5300. For a 96 f body. I recieved a few quotes from other companies for a little less, but nothing significant enough to warrant switching.
Time to sell the TA until I have an income that can support it.

Man, I didn't know it was that bad for so many people. I mean, I know the F-Body is expensive to insure, but I thought I was getting raped by paying $1899 this next year on my 93, and I'm 24 and clean record. I did'nt realize that people were paying over 4-5 GRAND!!!! As much as it is needed, insurance is nothing more than legal embezzlement.
F/BConvert
Getting a lawyer will probably be cheaper than paying all that insurance. There has got to be some sort of record showing that you didn't get a 5 point ticket.
As for for the issue at hand, this sucks ***. But IF he really is trying to get companies to come back to NJ, then it shouldn't take too long before rates start to drop. Otherwise, I'll be "living" in PA.
