2008 Bracket Racing Season

Maple Grove, Atco, Raceway, and Cecil's track schedules are out. Anyone sign up to run points? Dispite the fuss with the Div 1 deep staging rules I plan to run the Mustang in street this season. Should be entertaining.

I'm going to sign up for points at Atco and run as many races as I can. Rick is going to make some changes to the car so I can shallow stage it.

After reading up on DragRaceResults.com, I'm thinking it's a good year for us rookies to go a few rounds.

Jax, I''ll be seeing you and Rick for the first 3 races at AR. I'm already signed up to run street there. I will also be running Street ET on Sunday at RP. Only 11 races at RP which don't conflct with either MG or AR. Come April 12 I will have to pick either AR or MG. I'm surprised your going to shallow stage. Bud taught me well and I will have no issues with the new rules for deep. I ain't Jim Young but I stage very well. This will be my rookie year in street at AR.

I don't race at CE but I'll try to help. If you email the track they will make thing clear. Basically they have 2 points programs. On Saturday they have Street Car Shootout. I would say run Super Street in that series. 4-dot tires, mufflers, no tubed out cars etc. Check the CE website's schedule dates for "Street Car Shootout". The other program is the Summit ET Series on Sundays. Again check the schedule. For that serier you would be able to run Street or Pro. Street is 19.99-11.50 ET break, 4 dot tires, mufflers, etc. The Pro class (15.99-9.0 ET break) is the more full tilt race cars, plexiglass, slicks, open headers, etc. I would recomend that you run Steet for the Summit series. Be aware that there are a lot of really good racers running the the Summit race. I wasn't able to fit CE into my schedule this season but will be at Raceway and either Maple Grove or Atco.

Thanks this is good info that I needed and couldn't find, too bad I am switching over to slicks this season, maybe I can look into another set of rims and run a DR for some of these events...

I'll email the track, but I have done that in the past and haven't gotten any responses...

Slicks or Hoosier QTP??? Hoosiers QTP are Dot and legel at CE. Your not limited to run drag radials. That's the F-body and EFI thigns.

Kaz,

Any idea what prompted the rule change for going deep? Seems like an odd rule not to note you're going deep?

I would think this is going to have issues, because instead of "gentlemen racer", your going to have people quick stage to beat auto start? Or an opponent knows you go deep they might be able to quick stage on you and drop the tree before you're done bumping in?

Or am I missing something here?

John, you got the idea. Bracket Finals last year at MG a few deep stagers were taking advantage of the starter "holding" the tree for them. They were taking "forever' to stage. One run the deep guy made a shallow stager stay on his converter and super heat his trans. Deep guy finally went in. Shallow guys trans overheated, spewed trans fluid going down the track and he almost hit the wall. Div 1 man Bob Lang saw the whole thing and said deep is done. Put in the 10 second autostart with no holding the tree and no deep written on the car. Deep is still legel to do but "your on your own". No more gentlemen racing. Actually at the grove they had the same autostart in place for the regular brackets last season. Sometimes (starter really tried but missed a few) they held the tree for 2 deep but nomore. I deep stage and I'm like a 4 year old the night before X-mas. I can't wait for the season to start. A lot of deep stagers are going nuts over the rule. Some even said they were quitting. Me I signed up at RP to run on Sundays too. Hope to take advantage of the chaos. I can go from no prestage light to full deep and ready to launch in 2 secconds. Taking Bud McNasby (Atco Speed Shop) bracket racing class was the best $350 mod to date. And is transferable to any car I race.

I have posted nothing about the elimination of of Deep on the other board. I am also a Deep Stager...

Perhaps I am not as competitive as the others as I do not see this as a big deal. We will simply make the changes to my car and I will go in shallow. I'm not interested in rushing in deep - I HATE that feeling.

The way I see it, things change. The rules are CONSTANTLY changing. You can change with them or stay home complaining about the change. It seems like this is going to be what a lot of the NJFD folks will be doing. That or simply race when they feel like it and not sign up for points... Like I mentioned above - this could be a killer season for those of us that get our asses handed to us week in and week out by these guys...

Like someone mentioned on the other board (and everyone stayed away except 2 people) - the deep stagers should be mad at those that took advantage, NOT Bob Lang. I don't know who those people are - since no one will speak names - but they are the ones to blame for this.

Give an inch and they take a yard. That's why there are rules...

Jax, I will continue to go deep and not rush up to the line. As you know deep has a lot of advantages besides RT. Deep guys know this and will loose the advantages when they "have to" go shallow. They will adapt but in the meantime I hope to talk advantage in the early part of the season. Sadly I'll be running in street and not in pro this season.

Would really like to chat to you and Rick before the start. Checkout the HOOTERS thread Feb 21. If not I'll be in the AR pits on Mar 15.

I'll check with Rick but I don't see why we couldn't swing by on the 21st to chat.

Taken out of context that's a funny statement.
