ZZ-9 on stock motor?
I'm running the ZZ409 but know a lot of people that run the ZZ9 with a stock motor (including manifolds) and it runs whicked! I started out with a cat back and then threw in the ZZ409 (otherwise stock) and did 316RWHP and 336 RWTQ
off a cam and cat back - I think thats darn good. TPIS is more expensive than most but the quality of parts and the ammount of R&D is top notch. I have yet to see numbers that match mine for a cam and cat back. Even now I am posting numbers higher than people that have AFR heads and a CC306 and I have ported stock heads.

I have had the ZZ9 cam in my car for over 60,000 miles. It made 359 RWHP and 370 RWTQ with ported stock heads and SLP headers. I also have 1.6 rockers and a 52mm TB. It has over 100,000 miles on it now and still runs like it did the day I put it together. I have also never had it tuned. I have Hypertech tuning, but I don't think it does much, it seems to run the same with the stock tuning. I was a little rich on the top end (12.2 to 1) so there is probably a little more power to be had. Also it definately lopes, although I have heard that it lopes more with 1.6 rockers.

Im running it in my car and am getting 31mpg with stock 3.07 gears and an auto. I would suggest programming with an auto unless you like riding the brake at stoplights trying to keep it from dying. I am running 12.7s with a lot of bolt ons, factory heads and bottom end, on Nitto D/Rs. I am pretty happy with it I would say, but am switching up to the XE 224/230 grind with AFR 190 heads.....anyone need a zz-9 with 1500 miles?
Hey i have the zz9 and i love it. With a good exhaust it sounds damn good. Pretty lopey. Im gunna get the 1.6 rrs and it will helpit out alot. Just depends if you want to spend 375.00 for a cam or not. Or maybe you can get the one off the guys above. good luck.

And then the motor went south. Good GM oil pans and lovely pickups cause great cavitation problems for me
The ZZ409 dosen't have any problems and the ZZ9 is a small cam than the 409. Personally I don't think you will see much, if any, differnce down low or sitting in traffic. At hiway speeds I haven't noticed any drop in fuel economy. Now when i get on it though
it seems to go down a little quicker. The ZZ9 is made for 1.5k through 5k - so it retains the facotry power ban more or less. I think its the perfect cam for a daily driver auto. If you had a stick or a stall I would do the 409.
Compairing this to the hot cam I think the 409 is a lot stronger down low
