z28 transmission

Hi i have a 1995 z28 convertible with automatic transmission car has 100000miles,when driving it stalls slightly to put second gear but after that runs perfect is this a serious problem,just bought the car any advice on what to look into to fix to avoid future problems thankyou

Could you clarify exactly what happens when "it stalls slightly to put second gear ". Do you mean it seems to hang up before it will shift into 2nd; it goes into neutral before it shifts into 2nd, etc?

It it stalls at 11 mph
stays reving for about 1 second then jumps into second gear

Fluid level is correct, and fluid does not look/smell burned?

There are codes for the 4L60E trans. They don't turn on the SES light. So you have to scan for them. This is a problem with a 95, because it has a 16-pin OBD-2 style ALDL connector, but an OBD-1 PCM. Here's free software download. You just need a cable.

I checked the fluid and it looks burned,if you could tell me how to change id really appreciate it and whats the best fluid to use,i also checked my radiator and it has alot of rust any advice on how to clean it out ?

Around 150,why do you ask does it seem like a serious problem?

I'd get the trans fluid changed by a shop that can flush the torque converter. Filter change also.

Exactly what the Owner's Manual tells you to use. That would be a Dexron-3 compatible fluid. The current Dexron-6 is backwards compatible.

Thanks for all the help already talked to a shop to flush the tourque convertor and im gonna flush the radiator and change engine oil myself,thanks again
