z28 lt1 or corvette lt1

ok guys heres the deal. i bought a 93 z28 the guy i bought it from replaced the engine 15 grand ago.( because jiffy lube forgot to put the oil drain plug back in!!!) so he put a 97 lt1 in it. he said the new engine was a corvette with zero miles. i saw the dealer recipts and still have them. all the recipts say are new motor.....$3500. so how can i tell if it is a corvette engine.and if it is what are the proformance diff?

Some others might chime in and have a better method but the only sure fire way I can think of is if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main block. As for performance probably not noticeable.

Corvette engines have four bolt mains. If he put in a crate motor the fuel lines will enter/exit on the pass. instead of the drivers like on f-bodys. Also acc. will be loaded up to the drivers side. Seeing how probably only internals were replaced, the only way i know to tell the diff is the vette motor has 4 bolt mains.

Corvettes were rated 300hp stock and i think F-bodys were rated at 270-285hp? Im not sure where the power increase comes from. I think the cam grinds were slightly changed and maybe programming...im not sure, someone else is probably better at answering that.

Not all vettes are 4 bolt mains, i have seen some personally which arent. So thats not failproof.

Vettes accessories mount on the other side of the engine, but i would think that you would have to convert to the f-body style to put in a f-body though.

I really dont know how you would tell, but what difference does it make in the long run?

if he says it was a '97 engine... and its an LT1 then what he said should answer your question

What does it say on the receipt? crate engine or what.

Is the crate engine basically a Vette engine? My car had an engine replaced by a dealer by the previous owner, the paperwork from the dealer says pn#12524896 ENG-LT1GW I was just wondering the same if mine is the 275, 285, or 300 hp version, the engine was replaced in April 2000.

it would have to still have the speed density (unless coverted). the engines are the same. just droped a new one in a hooked up everything that use still on the car, like all accessories, pullies. they probably just replace the block and new heads.

and it wasnt a 97 vete engine. it may be a 97 lt1 engine. but if it were a 97 engine it would be a ls1, as said above.

GM sells crate LT1 350 4 Bolts, they are only short blocks and retail at like 1700 or some thing like that. Vettes are rated more but thats not due to the engine, rather better intake/exhaust. I can't fid the part # you gave, I'm sure you just got a replacement LT1. The dealer would just replace the motor not the engine management system. C'mon now guys

I think all three engines made the same HP at the crank. The 275 hp version (F-cars) had a single-cat y-pipe, and the 285 hp (F-car) had a dual cat y-pipe. The 300 hp (vette) had freer flowing exhaust and intake. Ram Air options also add some hp. If you are curious, get your car dynoed.

There were slightly different cams through the years, but the Vette had dual exaust, so don't dream too hard about having a 300 HP engine.
