Z06/ls6 Maf Faq!!!!
Z06/ls6 Maf Faq!!!!
Alright.. seeing I say stuff all the time about this topic and have put a LOT of effort into it.. here we go...
Overall Issues:
Size: 4" inlet Vs Stock 3.5" inlet. This creates fitment problems with some aftermarket CAI's. Some can be solved with a Fernco Coupler (Available from any Home Depot), other CAI's won't work at all with the Z06 MAF.
A WS-6 Style airbox works perfectly with the Z06 MAF inlet, with a 1/2 Fernco Coupler (Cut to be 1/2 the length)
HP Gains: Minimal to NONE. This is NOT a HP adding mod. This should be used as a replacement option due to the decreased cost verses a stocker. ($100/$150 Vs $300+) Yes, some say they dyno'd 5 hp more or what have you, but unless the MAF is a restriction to the motor (fairly high HP#'s apply) the gains will be minimal, and the $150 can be spent on something that gains a LOT more.
LS1-speed/GMS Z06 MAF's:
Modified/HACKED GM Z06 MAF sensor.
Unknown Flow Vs Frequency curve; Supossed to be a plug-n-play unit, but has been known to cause eratic behavior on some cars. Some have had MASSIVE tuning problems with these units. Can't correctly tune the PCM for the MAF due to GMS/LS1-speed not releasing the calibration curve.
Cost: ~$150
GM Z06/LS6 MAF:
Stock GM unit available at ANY GM dealer.
Prices have gone up from when I got mine, they are now $105 from GMpartsdirect.com Vs $85 when I got mine.
Adapter Cable required, can be gotten from Ed Wright with PCM programming, or from Kevin @ Ramchargers (~$22)
Programming is known. I got my curve directly off of a '02 Z06 Vette PCM. If someone can host the excel file I'll gladly send it to them otherwise just e-mail me if you need a copy. I've been running this curve for almost 2 years and my BLM's were within 3 of 128 before I put my Hooker's on.. have exhaust leak problems now.
Programming the PCM is REQUIRED, either by LT1 edit, or by any mail-order tune.
Cost: ~$105 +shipping, ~$22 +Shipping (adapter-cable)
other: The GM Z06 MAF has a built in IAT sensor. This maybe of use to us LT1 guys as well, but not much research has been done on using this one instead of the stocker. Basically the stocker just needs to be compared to the integral one, AFAIK no one has done this yet...
Feel free to add any information to this thread that is relevent, I'm hoping this will not turn into a bash-fest, and can just be for information purposes to address the popular topic of the Z06 MAF.
