Yet Another Exhaust Question :)
Yet Another Exhaust Question :)
I did a search but came up with too many "which one sounds the best" threads.
I'm looking for a decently priced exhaust since I'm going to be getting MAC Shorty headers as well and am on a budget now (GMMG/Borla too expensive), that will sound good with Cat's IN, won't drone on the hwy and isn't unbearable for my neighbors (I live in the City)! Of course I want it to flow well too
I have the stock one now, how much of a difference do the major brands compare to it sound wise? Would the Loudmouth be too loud for me?
Which exhausts would be "too" loud for the city

Re: Yet Another Exhaust Question :)
For all the loudmouths I've heard, they are far too loud for what you are looking for. If you want something that won't drone and flows well, stay away from flowmaster, or as some affectionatly call "chokemaster". Hooker and Magnaflow seem to be the best options as far as price and sound. I have the SLP Dual/Dual muffler and it is probably too quiet for what you are looking for.

In my opinion the only advantage to Borla is that you can make it loud or quiet. Look for a used one WITH the block off plates. Lots of people sell them used w/o the plates. $650 for exahaust is rediculous. I love my magnaflow! $300 shipped from www.performance-curve.com ask for Scott. Full 3" stainless and mellow tone!
Re: Yet Another Exhaust Question :)
I know that nobody really mentions it, but I have the Edelbrock catback and I really like it. However, I have an off-road pipe so it may sound different with a cat on there. The sound is different, not raspy, but mellow and smooth. Definately different than anything I have heard on F-bodies around here. I just got my MAC mid-lengths on, but I haven't run the car yet to see how it sounds now. Overall, I like the sound (it's pretty quiet) and I had a SOTP difference while driving throughout the RPM range.
Re: Yet Another Exhaust Question :)
I have MAC headers, and with the cat in, the Hooker catback is exactly what you're looking for. Sounds better than stock, no drone on the highway, but has a sweet deep tone when accelerating.
Without the cat, and a bullet muffler in it's place, it sounds even better but maybe too loud for what you want. Still no drone, or popping though.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. I think i'll go for the hooker then if i can find it locally! If I go from stock exhaust and stock headers how much of a SOTP gain would i notice? Ahy hp estimates?
is 20-30 realistic? (Mods in sig)
