Y pipe

Guys, I am thinking about getting a high flow Y pipe to install on my factory exhaust manifolds. I am looking at the Borla 2 3/4 and the SLP 2 1/2 diameter Y pipe. Which one of the two would give me the most torque and horsepower? Is there any loss of low end torque by going to a bigger Y pipe, and is there an increase in exhaust sound. Thanks, this is a great site. I love camaroZ28..com

I don't know about the SLP, but I did gain 7RWHP off of the Borla.

I got an SLP Y Pipe on stock manifolds...very interested on how much it gained....Compstall...thats awsome you got 7rwhp off the borla....i guess i should have gained some from the SLP one also....i got a question..what mods did you have in addition to the y pipe when you did that dyno? I have been thinking over the past few months weather i gained any power or not from it...it kinda aggrivates me because i spent a good amount for something that alot of people say wont give me any gains...what a nice ramble this post is

I have dyno'd all my power mods individually. I had 287/321 with the CAI, ported MAF ends, airfoil, March pulleys, Borla Y-pipe, straight-piped cat. convertor, and Flowmaster cat-back. That was almost two years ago, it's been quite a while since I've done anything in the power dept., but that's changing as soon as I get home!

I got almost 13 off the cat-back, but can't remember what the CAI gave me. Turbo Technology has all my runs in their files. I'll have to get copies and update my site when I get back from this deployment.

Well, BEFORE this deployment, back in January, I had plans to run my car with the ported MAF ends, the stock MAF, and a Granatelli MAF I have. I still plan on doing that, I just have a little wrench in there now. I loaned my ported MAF to my bro-in-law last fall. He sends me pics recently of his new '02 Vette that he traded his '94 Vette in for.....hmmmm oh yeah forgot somethin' didn't we... Oh well, I'll find a couple MAF ends and port them again. That just took me so long to do, about 4.5 hours. It was done by hand mostly, and I had the insides of it down to a mirror finish.

Another test I have on the bench sitting at home is with that crazy 'Tornado' thingy. The lemmings all say it's junk. I tend to agree with them too, but I want to see HARD #'s on paper, so I put up a challenge back in January, and a dealer actually sent me one for free for testing. I talked to Turbo Technology before I left on this deployment and they said they'd be more than happy to give me a few runs for free, and they could do some tests on it as well. Once all that was done, I plan on posting the #'s here, there, and everywhere on the 'net for ALL to see, good or bad.

OK, ya got me, I didn't test the airfoil. If I think about it while I'm on the rollers I'll try it out next time.
