xe230/236 on stock heads??
xe230/236 on stock heads??
Has any one run this cam on stock heads? I'm considering this cam to go along with 2800 vig stall, comp r's, comp 1.6 rr... etc. Just curious on the driveability of this set up. I will eventually get the heads ported just not now. And it is currently my daily driver. Thanks.
Re: xe230/236 on stock heads??
It's been done before. Do a search. I remember some guy saying he trapped 109 with his and he didn't know how to drive. So his combo ran well obviously. I wouldn't do it personally unless you plan to get heads later which you are.

Re: xe230/236 on stock heads??
what is your question about the 230/236's driveability?
the only thing I can think of as a change in driveability is the cam surge at about 2000rpms, but this is w/ stock tuning which is probably bad for this cam. I have run it w/ stock tuning for about 1000 miles now, I try and not drive it much w/ this setup, it runs very rich though which makes me feel good about the engine longevity at least. I will say it makes decent lowend, and the topend is almost as nice as the cc306... but it comes on harder at 2500rpms I'd say than the cc306 that comes on strong at about 3000-3500rpms?(correct me if im wrong cc306 guys).
max HP I have HEARD is around 6100rpms, my only dyno w/ the cam was w/ an opti going out due to a leaking water pump onto it and it went to 4800 rpms and made 318rwhp and 332rwtq... lots more left in it though I am sure. I am guessing at least 340rwhp on stock heads w/ stock tuning but this may be overestimating...we will see shortly though

Re: xe230/236 on stock heads??
I have it on a 114. It is very drivable with the mail order tune from pcmforless. I havnt really decided if I should've went with a 112 or something. I see lots of good numbers from a 112 but never heard anything about 114. I havnt had a chance to get it on the dyno yet but will post numbers as soon as i can. Does anyone have any experience with it on a 114 and does anyone think I'm losing a lot from not being on a 112 lsa.
Re: xe230/236 on stock heads??
Thanks guys. No the question I mainly had about driveability was how bad the cam surge is and if you had to rev the crap out of just for the car to take off from a stop light, especially with a stall. I was thinkin about goin with the 306 but the 230/236 seems to be a better choice for a daily driver since it has a little more low end than the 306.
Re: xe230/236 on stock heads??
Im running the XE 230/236 on a 112 and daily driving is not such a hussle like some people put it. Maybe because mine is a 6 speed but it all comes down to how much are you willing to put up. In my opinion, if you are the kind of person that is willing to do whatever it takes to go fast, then go ahead and do it! This cam with stock heads and LTs dyno 345rwhp on my car with a dynotune. I love the way it chops with my cut -out open
