xe to custom cam??
xe to custom cam??
hello everyone i was wondering if i switch my cam from my xe 230/236 to a custom cam from loyd elliott,if it would be worth the hassle of a cam swap? he did my heads about 2 years ago.i have roughly 394rwhp right now with the cutout open.iam kinda bored as i haven't really touched the car in a long time.thanks brian
Re: xe to custom cam??
What else are you looking for out of the setup? More power, better drivability, more RPM, more TQ?
Any idea of the rest of the TQ curve like a dyno chart? You might get a jump in peak power, but a large increase in average TQ which would make the car a bunch faster.

Re: xe to custom cam??
when loyd did my heads their wasn't an le1 or2 my heads flowed 274 or close,i love the car i just want to make sure their is no more power left on the table. people told me the gains don't justify the work.iam just at a crossroads with my car...sell it keep it and mod it more....who knows. i just keep it in the garage all waxed, put hardly any miles on it the past year. maybe 100. just want to do something to kind of ignite the old mod bug.

A small nitrous shot does wonders for upping your interest in the car
.....Seriously though,...Im sure "whatever" HP is left to gain (from a cam swap) with your engine combo, Lloyd and Bret will find it.........what's the lift of your current cam? and whats the LSA?

Re: xe to custom cam??
Not to jack your thread or anything, but I have cnc heads flowing right about the same (27x/19x) and im on a seesaw whether to go with the cam you currently have, or to go with the 236/242 112 lsa. Anyone have any input on this? Is this cam overkill for the heads?
On a side note, I DO plan on running a 100 shot in the future at the track or other situations which may require it
Also, which head gaskets to run on this setup? Id like to run the 1074's but im worried they may not handle the cylinder pressure off 100-150 shot on this setup and I certainly dont want to do head gaskets in the car anytime soon. This is a stock bottom end car BTW, and I dont want to hear anything about the bottom not handling it, Im well prepared for that scenario and the N20 wont come for awhile anyways.

Besz28, okay now you've got my curiosity going.
I have a very similar set up to what you're running, (see signiture), but I've never had my car dynoed.
(My Comp XE 230/236 cam has a 112 LSA and .544I/.555E lift w/1.6 rockers). You're making 394 RWHP with your car, have you ever run it at the drag strip? My best to date has been 12.210 @ 115.42 at a race weight of 3640 lbs. Just trying to get a feel for what kind of RWHP I may be putting down?
Also, OldSStroker, you asked for some specific conditions on what we may be looking for by swapping in a "custom" cam for our XE 230/236's. Obviously, I don't have a dyno graph to show you for the 230/236 in my car, but in general do you think you can get say an average of an additional 10 lb-ft of torque over the XE 230/236 by using a "custom" grind in the rpm range of say 2,500 to 6,000 RPM, for cars with our level of supporting mods?
That magnitude of gain may make the hassle of another cam swap bearable?

That magnitude of gain may make the hassle of another cam swap bearable? How much RWTQ do you guys have now? I've seen up to 20ft lbs more TQ with the LE2 cam than the other comparable cams out there in that range.
If I have a idea of what you guys have now I can give you the info to make your choice easier on the camswap, since in the end it's your choice and my opinion is that it will drive better, idle harder, make more TQ and more HP, but that doesnt help you all out much.
