Talking XE 230/236 - 800 rpm idle vid

video here

well i posted a video few weeks back of the initial startup of my cam/rocker install - then it was idling at 1100 RPM-

above is a newer video with the idle set to 800 - just a bit choppier- going up to a 850 idle this week to make her a little more consitant in the idle, but thought some of you guys would appreciate the sound- (ignore the slight clanging sound, my exhuast shook loose after a bit haha guess i need to clamp tighter)

Amazing how different that sounds from my setup. I set my idle at 1000 rpm though. I pretty much lost all my lobe sound of my smaller XE cam after tuning with datamaster and TC. Yours sounds great. Bet it sounds even better after +100 rpm or so.

Re: XE 230/236 - 800 rpm idle vid

thnks guys - ha even at 1100 rpm it was still pretty choppy 1100 rpm idle im real happy with how this cam sounds and cant wait to see how she performs with the new valvetrain setup.

sadly ive yet to even get to drive her on the road - turns out from the install we cracked the coolant hose by the bleeder valves- didnt notice and when i had her running she dumped coolant all over my opti - hopeing to get the opti changed out this week so i can drive home (at college) for break. that video was of one of the few times she started up and opti decided to cooperate.

im hoping with some further tuning on the dyno to put down 350-360 hp, and with new gears and suspension to be hitting low 12's this spring - Might even have a nitrous set up in the works from a friend

not bad for a car i bought from junkyard last year and rebuilt on a college budget.

hoping for some videos this weekend-

ha nope- actually havent even gotten a chance to really even drive - right after i filmed that ran into bunch of problems starting with a coolant line breaking and dumping on opti / alternator going bad / and since i fixed all of that the car will not start. it cranks but wont turn over- been troubleshooting it in free time and basically have replaced everything on the engine and am down to checking the valvetrain and intake manifold seal.

sux been over a month since i finished the install and now its snowing and still havent had a chance to really hear her idle with the new tune never mind even drive her

so.... it looks like she wont be hitting road till spring and since i may have to tear her down again im thinking about just saying f*ck it and getting the heads and intake done. As is im allready swapping out to a set of longtubes, got 4.10s in the mail and an elec. WP on the way.

its gonna be great to drive for the first time... should have a bit more power than before

Let me whipe up my drool here....

What kind of mileage do you get? and seriously, how did you manage on a college budget?

All in all

Re: XE 230/236 - 800 rpm idle vid

well the 800ish idle was too low- so right now its set to 850 and it made it sound much better-

as far as gas mileage- ha ill let u know if the thing ever manages to be driven...right now its snowing hard and im still trying to figure out why shes being stubborn.

as far as college budget - this board made it possible along with friends who own a performance shop - and credit cards-

CC XE 230/236 112 LSA cam
Comp Cams 26918-16 beehive springs
Comp Cams 787-16 retainers
Comp Cams 601-16 valve locks
Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 rocker arms
ARP 7/16" studs
AFR guide plates
Comp Cam hardened Pushrods
new valve seals
and all gaskets
LT4 timing chain kit

total = $ 800

new opti
new coil
breathers
new vacum lines
new heater hoses
Pro 5.0 Shifter
new valve covers
fluids
harlan shift light
madz tune
4 new rotors and all new pads
powdercoated intake/alternator/WP bracket/ and alternator bracket
total = $300

most of the parts i got for price and a lot of parts for free from a friend who just got an LS1 with full boltons putting down 384 RHP and 434 torque - still working on getting the Electric WP off him and hes offered his longtubes in trade for the shorties if i do the work

I have my idle set at 850 too. And I also know about the college budget. I get 14-16mpg city and 26 highway. Here's a vid of my car: www.crazyz28.net/Videos/101_0062.MOV

It was lopy like yours with the original pcmforless tune. I played around with the tune to try to fix the split blm at idle problem. Ended up making idle spark advance at 30* and leaning it up a bit, and it lost some lope.
