XE 224/230 Cam, emmissions...
For a while I was set on getting the hotcam, now im considering other packages that hopefully can pass emissions. Most emmission friendly cams seem to be putting down similar numbers, until the heads are opened up...
2 questions,
1. Do you think I could pass emmissions with the XE 224/230 cam?
2. How much more potential will this cam have (assuming 1.6 rockers) when opening up the heads as opposed to the hot-cam?

I have heard it will pass emissions on a 114LSA. With 1.6rr you will be in the .540+ lift range.....stock heads don't show any flow improvements much above .520ish without some help. I am running stock heads right now with this cam and love it. I know people who are running it with some stock p&p work done and you can sure tell the dif. I am planning on heads this Winter.

Do you know if that was on a 114 lsa? if i go the 224/230 route which it looks like im going to, and i have to get the 114 lsa to definately pass emissions, is this still justifiable money wise to get as opposed to the hotcam kit? Will there be that big a difference between this cam on 114, and the hotcam? I do plan on porting heads as well.

Re: XE 224/230 Cam, emmissions...
The LT4 Hotcam is a 112LSA, as well as the CC503 XE 224/230. With the XE's steeper lobe ramps, it supposedly is similar for emissions to the hotcam, despite the longer durations (hotcam is 218/228). At least this is what I've been told. My 383 is almost built, and I'm using the XE224/230. I just passed an emissions test, so I won't need to go through one for 2 years. I'm not expecting to have any trouble, though.
Bear in mind that lift with the XE224/230 and 1.5 rockers is between that of the hotcam with 1.5's and with 1.6's.

Re: XE 224/230 Cam, emmissions...
he said out of the box so i would assume however it is advertised in the catalog. changing to a different lsa is only going to change the idle a little and move the peaks. between 114 and 112 the difference in power will be little if any. keep it higher and 1. give you more sleeper status, 2. be more power adder friendly

Re: XE 224/230 Cam, emmissions...
I've been doing some more reading, and i noticed that some people that went with the 224/230 cam on a 114 lsa are putting out some pretty damn good numbers both with stock heads(330-340 rwhp range, auto), and ported heads(360+ rwhp, auto). Pretty impressive.
I am gonna see what kind of a kit or package I can get from combination motorsports. Hopefully this thing will sound good with the 114 lsa, but i would rather have the performance aspect.

Thats why i was considering the 112 on the 224/230 as well, because i figured it would at least be very similar to the hotcam, but with a bit more lift...and i know tons of people have passed with hotcam...so what gives??
