HEY EVERYBODY,
I'm going to be doing a cam soon. I was thinking of doing this cam, 114 lsa,(waiting for combination motosports cam special for a cam kit) cause i have emissions testing on the dyno
My question is, a buddy of mine told me, that, i have to change the springs every 10,000-15,000 miles, cause the cam is rough on the valvetrain, is this true? I heard that the hotcam, the springs or kit something like that, is suppose to last 200,000 miles and easier on the valvetrtain. I don't feel like changing springs that often, so am i better off goin with the hotcam, or does xe have springs that u won't have to change that often. My car is mainly a daily driver in the spring/summer months. Might go to track once or twice a year to see my times, otherwise just a kick *** street car. Sorry for long thread.

The best adice I have ever heard: Believe nothing that your are told, and half of what you see. For your case I am going to have to say no on the 10,000 miles. I have the same cam execpt on a 112lsa. You are going to need different springs for sure if you are doing so, I would suggest looking into some lunati's or some Comp cams, just be carefull when ordering them, check to make sure you dont have to machine your heads to fit the spring seats. You should be able to get well over 50,000 miles on a good set of springs with agressive driving patterns.

I have the same cam on a 112lsa and I have never heard that you have to change you springs every 10-15k miles. As long as you get a good enough springs that will handle the lift of that cam you should be fine.
I got my cam and springs through CMotorsports, they told me to go with CM 612's. (single spring, good to .600 lift)

yea, it didn't sound right to me either, so i said, why not posted and see if anybody else has heard this. That's what these boards are here for, right. whooo!!!! what a relief to hear this. I was having second thoughts of getting the xe kit.

I have the 230/236 112 LSA cam and I just busted a valvespring and slapped a piston. I am putting it back together and cmotorsports sent me a replacement spring, but I was wondering if you have to replace the valve seal or something like that to get it good to .600" lift. w/ 1.6 rr's my cam lifts to .592" and I destroyed one valve already... dont want to do it again.
anyone know anything about replacing valve seats or seals and getting more clearance? The machine shop I took it to knows nothing about it..... =/
