I was driving last night and wheni started the car i notices that my battery was marking 9 instead of 14-15 and suddenly i turned in a side street and the battery went up to 14-15 and the car hesitated a little and the lights of security, abs and air bag turned on! what is this mean? help please also my car has been backfirering at like 5000 rpms

 

sounds like your alt. is going out.

 

i just checked it and its dead it doesnt start and the widows go down and up normally and when i try to turn it on this funny smell comes from under the hood help!!

 

Did you check you fueses and wires under the hood?Also might check the conections at the starter and alt.

 

the connectors in the battery have this white powder and the date odf the battery says agu 2001 is that expiration or issue?
im gonna check please keep me posted

 

the white power is corosion clean it off with a small wire brush. and try it agian. the date is when the battery was purchased

 

Funny smell under the hood? Sounds exactly like when my starter grounded out and fried. Might wanna check that,

Sounds about right, when mine went bad I started the car up and two minutes down the road my voltage was dropping real fast, lights were dimming and then it just cut off. I opened the hood and smoke poured out and it was a horrible burnt smell like your describing. I really don't know how to diagnose the problem, I had my car towed to the mechanic and he discovered it was the starter. Maybe someone knows how to tell....
