Wtf happend to this?! (PIC)

Well I've been getting horrible mileage so I scanned the car and found out the o2s were shot AGAIN (just put new ones in a few months ago with the headers then found out the coating screws up o2s when it burns off) So today I changed the o2s and one of them looked normal then the other one looked like this WTF happend to it?

Check to make sure that the O2 bung is open and clear. Looks like maybe the hole in the header for the O2 is not big enough and it's getting smashed when you're screwing it in. Just a thought.

That's pretty ugly.

What headers?

MAC mids for headers, it went in fine and came out like that. The o2 bung is the right size and nothing is in the way..I put them on with the headers still off of the car so I don't know what happened.

Could you be running super lean i.e. super hot and melted it?

Thats actually all i could guess. But if he ran lean wouldnt his gas mileage be better Unless hes only running lean WOT and melting it then...

Somethings definently not right.

Wow, that's pretty messed up. It doesn't look melted, it looks ripped up....but it's really hard to tell because it's sort of blurry. Can you get a better pic? Are they AC Delco AFS-75 O2 sensors? Never seen that before.....didn't think you could melt an O2 sensor without something else going first.

It is an AC delco o2 and it looks more like it was torn/ripped then melted. The car puffs black smoke when I nail the gas so its definitly running rich, not to mention 180 miles per tank without a heavy foot.

I guess you could get an air/fuel gauge and see if your running too lean under certain conditions, unless you could get on a dyno and look at your NOx, HC, and CO levels..that would be the more accurate way.

Looks like you shot something hard out of the combustion chamber and it took out an O2 sensor.

Might want to do a leak down test on that bank.It may be something to do with a piston,or check your CAI & TB to see if anything may have come loose and went through engine

Just an idea, when the pucks break off spark plugs, they get blown out the exhaust. I don't think it would be enough to do damage like that, but just a thought.

That happened to a friend of mine when we did the header install, with macs. The o2 bung was welded right where the colector meets the four tubes. When we tighten it up,the top of the o2 would smash agaisnt the header tube, and it came out looking just like yours. Might want to look at it again.

I dont think running lean would do that. My O2 sensor did the same thing, where the bung fits is too close to the collector and it smashed the end just like yours as I threaded it into header. The sensor rubbed on the collector part where the four tubes come into one. Nothing to worry about just a pita to fix.
