wtf... all my gauges are off

Well this camaro is new to me but it is my 3rd so i'm familiar with the crappy gas gauges and such. The previous owner had white gauges installed but everything looks straight. I've already ran my car out of gas once at the end of the first tank I put in it and the needle was barely below the 1/4 tank mark.

Then my RPMs read 2100 for normal idle but i can tell just by the sound it's not this high. My speedo seems to read 5mph slower then actual speed from what i've seen so far also.

This is my first Z so is it possible i have aftermarket gears? Any other ideas? thanks

or do this, with the car warm at idle, my tach always reads 1000rpms.

fill your tank and set your gas needle to F

with car running measure voltage and set volt meter.

oil pressure,....ummm, shut it off and set to 0??

if speedo is off, use a gps unit and cruise control.

best answers i can give.

If this is as easy as you're explaining it... I'm on it! But I've never had to do this before.... any special tools I should run to the store for? I can't really make things worse.... I mean according to my RPM gauge I idle at 2000-2200rpms when i know it's more like 1000 or less. If anyone can break this down into simple steps for a dumbazz i'd appriciate it

well it always sounds easy, it's doing it that gets tricky.

ever try to put a speedo needle on will driving down the expressway? better have help...

i understand the motor when warm idles at 800rpm but the stock gauge reads 1000. i know my gauge does.

anyway, pulling needles can be tricky, make sure not to bend or break anything. if they're not on just right they stick. my oil gauge has been sticking but the rest of mine turned out well.

good luck!

About the gauges, cant you just hook up a scanner to tell you how fast your going while the rear of the car is on jackstands? Then set it from there?

scanners cost $$ and i don't have much of that. Can't i just take it in and get it calibrated for like $60 labor or something? if I take my gauges apart i'm going to break something...
