wow how much will all this cost.. . .???

i brought my car to the local shop, to see why i have an oil leak.

i have a bad distributor, and a bad optispark. there is also a minor leak from the rear intake manifold.

without labor, how much would the parts cost, roughly??/ and does anyone know any good sites were i could buy these?

The distributor=opti spark. You can get new GM's which is what most people suggest for around 200. Not at your Local GM dealers. Do a search on here and you can find where to get them cheap. If not summit has better prices than most dealers. How many miles do you have? If you have a high mileage car replace the water pump now. If you don't replace it now you might install a new opti and then if your waterpump goes out it will kill the opti all over again. The intake leak would be nothing to fix. I say do it all your self i bet getting all that work done at a shop would cost 1-1.5k. All that stuff could be replaced in a day. By the way you will have the top half of the motor off and the front half off now is the perfect time for a cam.

just a little over 50k on the 97.

i don't know why the guy would put down "distributor" AND optispark, if it was the same thing??

it says optispark and distributor, and problem bad distributor. i won't have the cash for a cam, i'll just have enough to get this fixed. maybe i will replace the water pump if i get the parts. so estimated parts cost?? would be around what?

honestly

maybe hes trying to rip you off...

our cars distrubitors are called the 'optispark'

ask him to point where ur distrubitor is, and then ask him to point to where the optispark is...

ur optispark is located infront of the engine under your throttle body elbow behind the water pump...

see where he shows u for the dist. and the optispark

Maybe he is trying to scam you for more money. He probably figures he can charge you money for something you don't even need and you won't know the diff. The distributor is the optispark. I've only had mine off 5+ times. I've been completely through my car, the only thing that hasn't been removed from my car is the interior. So you can believe me when i say the optispark is the distributor. I guess it depends on if you supply the parts or if he does. If he gets GM parts i've heard of dealers charge anywhere from 3-600 for the opti, 2-400 just for the opti. My local dealer wanted $375 for the opti and $250 for the water pump. Most of the times shops will buy a part from a part houses and charge you "a dealer price" for the part. Intake gaskets are about $50. For the price you are gonna pay for this work you could buy a really nice tool set, buy a Haynes manual, do the work yourself, and still pocket some cash. There are online guides for opti installs. To do all this work all you would need is a ratchet and end wrench set.

come to think of it, it says opti spark distributor, i probably read it wrong, but he called it a distributor, its on 2 seperate lines.

he said it would be 500-700 *labor included i think.
