2nd gear in a stock auto is a chirp not a spin.. spinning would be like 1 full rotation or more befor it started to accel again.. A chirp is they slip a tad then grab again. 3rd gear is gunna be trans, I can sometimes get a chirp out of my 6 speed car.. SOMETIMES and thats at like 60 or something like that with the engine right around redline dumping the clutch (basically powershifting)

It's probably just the belt squawking when the car shifts. Mine does that all the time. Sounds like tires at first, but it's not.

Sorry I also vote for a belt bark. It would sound a little bit like the tires but it is not. With your relatively stock setup and stock gears look at the belt tentioner as a possible future problem.

With brand new tires I get a good chirp into second at around 50mph but no way could I get a third gear scratch at 95mph.

I have gotten a nice belt chirp though!

my z28 used to chirp 2nd every time.. stock.. but i just got new tires so that happens once in a while.. but back when my car chirped, make it smoked 2nd, the tires still had considerable tread..

I saw a firebird light up the tires at 200mph on TV today. Didn't look stock though.

i just recently jacked the line pressure in my tranny up a good deal and i can spin 2nd but i can even chirp 3rd. my belt does make a lot of noise that sounds like tire chirp though.

DeWdZ! My A4 car breaks loose going into 5th AND 6th all the time - so I don't see the big deal in 3rd?
Just kidding, trying to lighten it up a little for you Scott - some people just think too much...

Just FYI, I don't think it is unheard of for a Z to "chirp" 3rd. It isn't as likely with a completely stock setup, but hey - there are those rarities.

So...I saw a Camaro break loose at 300mph the other day...and right beside him a guy in a Camaro ran a 4.77 @ 322 mph...big deal I don't think they were stock either tho.

You only get ten miles to the gallon because your sig weighs your car down.
