Would u be afarid of this Z? Good buy?

I have a friend of mine who knows a guy about 100 miles away. Who has a 1994 Z28 he needs to sell.

Anyway I ran a carfax and it shows only 2 owners with 138,658 and Good News -- Vehicle qualifies for the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee!

it came back clean even shows it was

08/28/2002 96,301 Service Facility
Vehicle serviced

12/19/2002 101,755 Service Facility
Vehicle serviced

My ? is ... is this HIGH miles for this motor? What is the avg lifespan of this motor? He wants $3000.00 for it is this a very good deal or should i look for one with less miles? But most of what i have seen with millage in the 90s are 5000.00 to 5500.00

The car is black with the Z28 in red... i have pic and it looks very good.

Thanks for advice

My 93' has around 130,000 and still going strong..... Key thing is check for leaks and any problems that might arise.. ie Opti, rearend, tranny, etc....

My car had 124k on it when i got it and i paid 4k.(1993 Z28) It was mostly highway miles and i could tell, the interior didnt have a single stain or tear in it, rest of the car was fine also. I would say go for it!

my car had 142,000 on it when i bought it and it still runs strong. The LT-1 motor is a pretty solid motor if you take care of it. They take alot of abuse and keep ticking. It always amazes me that my motor has such high mileage and when i beat on it, it seems to keep asking for more. I love these things

i have a 94 Z i just bought with 135k miles on it, still runs like its brand new minus the very rare SES light, got it for 3800, but it had a few minor paint flaws in it. in good overall shape though, just check for any oil or tranny leaks... mine just recently started leakin a little at the rear seal, so that may be somethin to check for too i guess. good luck with it.

91 octane is what is recommended by GM for them. They are 10.5:1 compression but since they are reverse flow risk of detonation is supposed to be reduced by cooler head temperatures.

Take it for a test drive. See how it runs. See how it stops. Make sure it's not pulling to the left or right. Ask as many questions as you can think off. Make sure it doesn't need tires right away. Low ball him, but not by to much. Take it from there, and if you feel comfortable with the price, go for it.

the oil leak is pretty common on lt1's. More than likely it is the intake manfiold. Just run your hand along the back of the intake and see if it is oily. If it is, and you have the tools, its like a $20 gasket set to cure the problem.

More importantly you need to look at the car and do several things. Getting to see it cold would be helpful.

Check fluids.
Ask for any maintenance records.
Ask if the title is clear.
Check under the front of the engine to see if the water pump is dripping.
Try the remote key fob to see if it unlocks both doors.
Start the car and while it's idling, try different controls in the car like lights,(get out and look at them) blinkers and high beams. Radio and all the HVAC controls. Try the AC of course.
After the engine heats up, try the heat.
Listen to see that the fan comes on and the temperature gage drops back down. Keep an eye on the other gages as well.
Open and close everything(every door that is).
Take it for a drive.
Put the AC on the vent position and when you can, accelerate briskly from a stop light to see if the airflow slows down significantly from the vents.
Let it idle for a minute after the drive and then shut it down.
Be wary of any SES lights. Let what you find do the talking. If you and he see something wrong, I'm sure he will adjust the price accordingly.

If you don't find anything wrong, I wouldn't bash him on the price. A 94 in good running condition at 3K is a good buy. A 94 is good year to own and work on (I should know, I own one). If you find anything wrong, ask us first before you decide. The people on this board know everything.

Cool Re: Would u be afarid of this Z? Good buy?

If the car has been properly maintained it will be fine. Expect some equipment failures due to age and mileage down the road, though.
