Would this ruin my opti?

My dad had my car for painting, and he hosed out under the hood to remove some dust. Would just getting the opti wet ruin it even if the car wasnt' running? It won't start now unless I hold the throttle open and when it does start it's spitting and missing and smoking like crazy.

of course getting it wet when it's off can ruin it...thats when a lot are accidentally bathed in coolant, hosed, etc... Just let the car sit for a couple days to dry out if possible...many have had it come back to life...

Your plug wires are wet and causing arcing to ground. Let it sit in the sun. I had to drive mine for 3 days like that until it dried out and got better.

When i changed my waterpump, pretty much everything was covered in water and it wouldnt start. The next day, midday it had dried up and started flawlessly.

It's very possible that the opti was damaged. You have about a 50/50 shot of it coming back to life.

had mine do that exact thing recently. I spilt coolant when doing a stat change because a bit more than expected came out on me, and when I went to start it up it smoked, and missed and just ran absolutly horribly, then a couple day's later after rain it wouldn't start at all, after several day's it dried out and runs fine now.

Re: Would this ruin my opti?

I was driving mine once in extremely heavy rain, water standing in the road etc. Got the flashing SES light which the owners manual described as a Misfire condition...If I remember correctly. Continued driving 30+ miles to work and never had any trouble. Of course the misfire could have been caused by other pieces besides the opti getting wet. But generally the optis hate water.
