my buddy is telling me that if i go with a higher gear size i wont hook up, even with bfg dr's, i told him that i would but he told me with my stall, (i have 2:73's) right now that i wont get traction, so what do you guys think

 

Does your buddy have a fbody? I think you should look around here at what people are running. lots of guys with autos on 3.73s. Or you can pick up some 3.42's out of a m6 car cheap. Do you have the DR's installed already? from you sig it looks like you do. They are quite a bit stickier than regular old street tires. You should be able to hit 1.9 60s with DR's pretty easisly, whats going on with your 60'? or haven't you been back to the track yet? Theres a lot more traction on even a poorly prepped track then on the street. I have a manual with 3.73s and at the track can launch at 4k rpms on nitto drags unheated. it takes about 2400 rpm launch to chirp them on the street. My old tires i could get loose anywere in first just by flooring it from a roll, 2nd too depending on the road. You can always use that good ole thing called throttle modulation too if its a problem, just learn not to floor it in first.
