Would having too much oil...

Would having too much oil result in an oil leak? My car is about an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch past the full mark on the dipstick, and i was just wondering if having a little bit too much oil would cause a leak. I am experiencing periodic puddles and i have checked all the common stuff (intake and rear main) and they seem to be allright. Are there any sensors on the drivers side of the car that are common to spring a leak (oil pressure sensor? or anything else). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
trav

Also, do you think having that much extra oil in there is bad? Should i drain some out or just wait until the next oil change?

thanks,

Well, since draining some of the oil out is so EASY, you might as well do it. Drain VERY LITTLE at a time unless you have extra. As long as the pressure isn't too high, you should be OK.

That small amount over won't cause a problem. You could go 1/2qt over on these engines and be safe. Higher than that, and you could cause leaks, although mostly you'd probably just burn that extra real quick as it would get sucked through the PCV system.

Overfilling the oil can lead to crank dipping. The crank churns the oil into foam and reduces the effectiveness of the oiling system.

Depends on how much overfill.:)
