WOuld an Intake leak make more power?

hey guys, I know I have a v6, but its a universal thing I am talking about.

basically have a race tomorrow with someone I really wanna beat.

Would an exhaust leak make a little mroe power? honestly, if I unhooked the EGR(I cannot bypass it liek most cars, causes computer problems), and had an open hole on the side of my upper intake, would it in the end give me more power?

I know I will get a high idle, I have cracked it and it only idles around 2200 rpms. My thoughts are if the air is leaking in thorugh there as well as the TB, more air which = more fuel which equals more power.

Does this idea have any merit? Or is it like the electric supercharger, looks good on paper but doesn't do a damn thing in real life.

keep in mind its a track only mod.

yes but his car has an exhaust leak, but it ALSO has an intake leak... the air is going in through the EGR hole... so basically it'd be getting more air than the computer expected and it'd be seeing more oxygen than it expected...

remember this is a 3.4L too

to me it seems it might work but looking for more opinions, this hole is about 4 in. form the TB, still ahead of all the intake runners.

Also when the pipe popped off last time at the track I ran my best time

You would be adding more air than the computer was "seeing". In essence, you will throw the computer's calculations off. I don't see how that can result in more power.

[edit] ok, now you add you don't have a MAF. If you don't give all the info, forget about getting a meaningful response.

if you have an exhaust leak, the exhaust pulse is going to pull in outside air which will cause the O2 to read lean, and it will richen the mixture. If you have an intake leak thats already pulling in unmetered air, your going to be running VERY rich. Unmetered air is bad.

I guess that is why there are different forums.

Ok sounds good... looks good from afar but when you get into it doesn't work...

I know ther is a v6 section, but its a little slower, and this seemed to be a semi universal question.... I'll be off back to my v6 section.

thanks for the input everyone...
