would dead TPS cause this???
I searched and reviewed a lot of TPS related threads and found similar, but not heavily related symptoms, so i figured i'd post...I was driving down the road, stopped at a stop sign...soon as i get on the throttle, car barely responds, drives as if huge load on motor, doesn't shift til' past 3 grand even though i'm hardly giving it throttle, and sounds like complete ***...i pull over...it idles fine when in park, sounds normal, running on all cylinders....put it in gear, and idle drops very low, and sounds as if about to die...go to drive...no power, exhaust sounds completely different...similar to an exhaust leak, but it's not, just sounds not nearly as deep and really ****ty, all in all car not running well at all...i limped her home and parker 'er...didn't trip any SES lights, and all vital signs are healthy (oil, coolant, etc).
Now the fact that it can idle and sounds normal at idle, and then when applied throttle runs like ***, plus its crappy late shifting just brings TPS to mind...i won't have a DVOM til' monday, to test the sensor...so any idea's or similar situations, would be much appreciated...Thanks,

Re: would dead TPS cause this???
just started it cold....runs like complete ***, doesn't really idle worth beans...is sucking a crapload of air...idles better when i open the throttle body a smidge....any ideas?
Re: would dead TPS cause this???
I did a lil test, and unplugged the Throttle Position sensor, then started the car...it runs identical...so I'm assuming that atleast that sensor went **** up...can anyone conquer with this reasoning?
Re: would dead TPS cause this???
yes. can't claim to have any direct experience on this but from a logic standpoint it seems to make good sense. IMO you're headed in the right direction....
Re: would dead TPS cause this???
I remember when my TPS went out, my car idled excessively high, at like 2k, and wouldn't shift until 3500 rpm's. Oh ya, it shifted extremely hard! Almost like it had a shift kit, but I didn't. I am assuming what happened is the car thought it was at WOT and increased the line pressure to WOT settings. Anyways, get your TPS checked out.
Re: would dead TPS cause this???
errr...i replaced the TPS today, reset the pcm...and it didn't help at all...car is running extremely rich...i'm having thoughts it might be the MAF, i'm gonna try to track down someone with one to swap in, and see if that cures it...any more idea's, or experience on this would be much appreciated...
...this is my daily driver, and i am currently walking to and from everywhere, and its gonna snow soon...

Re: would dead TPS cause this???
have u unplugged the maf yet? with car running on and off? any differnce. since ur having similar problems to me but not the same, u can try this one. ny car had ****ty idle, did a few things to try and figure it out then i unplugged the map sensor and it ran fine. but if i unplugged the maf it would shut right down. anyway just soem ideas.gl
