Which would be the best way to go?

I have a 95 z28 lt1. The egine is starting to add up the miles on it with these long trip to college so I know soon I'm going to half to rebuild the engine. I was wondering which would be the way to go as far as cost effectiveness and daily driving? I either want to stroke it out or supercharge it when I rebuild it. Basically I have little knowledge on which one would be better or cheap. If anyone can give me an idea of cost for both and what the recommend that would be great thanks.
Wes

Well It's looking at 110k right now. I have taken really well care of it but the person who had it b4 me didn't take care of the egine or transmission thats why I just replaced the transmission.

I'm going to assume it's an A4. That being said, they aren't known for their strength or longevity. If you're engine isn't using any fluids, it'll probably last to 200k easy. My friend has a 93 with 190k miles on it. It didn't die until he changed the cam and accidentally reved the thing to 7500 rpm. The number one main bearing was paper thin when he pulled it apart. As far as the engine goes, I would stick with a stroker unless you already have the supercharger or the funds to buy one when you rebuilt the engine. A supercharger requires a lot of supporting items from bigger injectors to a BTM box and they have a tendency to destroy cast/hyper pistons.

And if i stroke it, it won't require all the etra stuff that the supercharger does?

Oh yes it will, trust me on this one. All the little stuff adds up a lot!. I didn't expect it and went about 3k over budget.

As far as longevity goes....my motor spun rod bearings at 79K and at the time my tranny was slipping also. I decided to do everything. You can imagine how much it cost.

Too much.

Lets see,

Used V1 Strim $1400

Trex pump and BTM box $600

40 #/hr Accel injectors $400

On going computer tuning $200

6 dyno pulls $214

New clutch and replace the rear main seal $800

Haven't bought or plumbed an intercooler yet, but I figure I'll be spending my tax return on that.

I'm building a stroker to stick in the car now, I'm hoping to hit 600 rwhp before I have to upgrade to a T trim or a turbo.

If you build a stroker, it will require supporting pieces, but nothing like what a supercharger will need. You won't need a $370 BTM box, you can use a standard 6a box or no box. The computer tuning won't be nearly as hard and you shouldn't need alot of dyno pulls to get it right. And you probably won't blow out the rear main like I did. But boost is fun.

I'd look at doing a 383 or a 396. Big fat, flat, torque curve =

your gonna need another few grand added on to 6k to give you the budget pillow you need to stay safe......Safe as in not over budget.

Nah, just plan on spending 3k and you'll end up with a 6k bill.

I spent 10k but that was for a complete tranny rebuild and beef up also.... so about 7k for everything but I'm talking EVERYTHING. I mean, my car was bone stock before the rebuild. All I had was pulleys, CAI and Catbacks. But that 7k was also with me doing the removal....rebuild and install.

Isn't the general rule of thumb to take your budget, double it, and then add some more and you'll get a general idea of how much it will cost you?
