Is it worth buying new LT vs. Used

Just wondering if you guys think it is worth paying more money and buying new LT's vs. buying the same ones used from someone else's car for less.

I would buy used and then you can clean them up and get them coated. Make sure you inspect them for damage very carefully, esp. around the collectors and flanges.

Check the price on new ones vs the used and see what the better deal is.
Nothing wrong with used LTs if they are in good condition and sold at a fair price.
I'm running used Mids on mine. Got em at a nice price.

If they are rusted to hell, bent or somehow mangled, you don't want them.
If it's just a missing flange, you can replace that for next to nothing.
If they are cut, you could have them rewelded. (I'd be a little leary of those).

Yeah, same here, by the time I got them in, the headers had just as many scratches as my arms and hands. I would have bought them used if I had the chance.

If you buy used, don't forget to check the flanges for warpage. Other than that it's just money saved to buy used.

Re: Is it worth buying new LT vs. Used

Get them new. They can be had for even less than 550 too. I think i payed 505 shipped for my coated ones and the ypipe. I had a problem with the passenger header of mine, so the place i bought it from, sent me a new set and they also paid return shipping on the one that didn't fit right. 2nd set fit though! If you end up buying used, you mite get stuck with a messed up header. That was a chance i didn't feel like taking so i went new.

I'd buy stainless ones and call it a day, something like Kooks. For all the headaches you can have with headers and performace you can lose from crappy ones the $$$ is worth the investment.

$200 used hookers with minimal rust. They will last longer than the car, so what does it matter.

I am glad some members can drop a grand into kooks

Re: Is it worth buying new LT vs. Used

As long as the used were in good condition I would go ahead and get them. I got new ones when I bought my pacesetters, but on my old mustang, I got used MAC's and was happy with them.

As long as the price and product are good then go for it!

I bought my coated pacesetters used (for only 3 months supposedly) for $375 + $50 shipping off of the classifieds here. They were in great shape with just a few scuffs and scratches from installation/removal, the guy also gave me a brand new pacesetter ORY, 02 extension, and new aluminum gaskets. I thought that was a hell of a deal compared to buying all that stuff new.
