Is it worth bothering?

Planning an engine rebuild...

Already began collecting parts.

On the new engine I'm planning to use a set of Trick Flow LTx heads, properly worked over by Lloyd.

If I wait until I'm ready to do the rebuild, I would buy bare castings and let Lloyd take it from there.

Now, THAT engine is going to be a centrifugally supercharged alcohol motor.
(E85 actually, since they sell it about 5 miles from me.)

It occurs to me that I could buy a set of assembled heads NOW. Well, in a couple of months anyway...

The price difference between bare & assembled is $460, so that's how much I would theoretically "throw away" if I put in bigger valves and different springs later on. Somewhat less if I bought thje beehives I want NOW and just change the valves later.

This would of course drop the compression about a point.

One last thing...
I'll be spraying about 125hp on this engine, but I'm not sure if that matters to the question.

Which is...

If I buy the assembled heads NOW and bolt them onto the stock block with the stock cam and 5/8" Tri-Y headers and 2.5" exhaust, is it going to do a signle damned thing for me?

Seriously...
If I got a nice little boost of power from these things, on the STOCK engine; then "throwing away" four hundred bucks is no big deal.

But these heads will probably be too big for the stock block, even straight off the shelf. In flow AND compression. The only advantage is that I will be using nitrous and maybe the bigger head will help there.

If these heads aren't going to do anything until later when I do the full rebuild, then there's no point.

So what do you think?

If it wqorth it to buy assembled versions of these heads a year early and bolt them onto the stock block?

Don't think ya will gain any, probably loose HP from the reduction in compression.

Re: Is it worth bothering?

That's what I was afraid of. Even using 1.6 or 1.7 RR to boost the lift and duration, it still wont be much.

Side question...

Anyone want to take a guess at what a used set of Edelbrock heads go for?
