Is it worth it?
Is it worth it?
We have a '95 T/A, AT, hardtop, beautiful red, w/ 101K miles and a blown head gasket. Hopefully, that's all there is wrong if/when we decide to fix it.
My question is - considering the prices some of these fine LT1 cars are selling for, would it be throwing good money away to get a 101K engine fixed for the $1500-$2000 good shops are quoting?
What should we do with this car? Drop a new motor in?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Re: Is it worth it?
I had the same problem. I just bought a used motor for $1100. and I found a mechanic who will put it in for $500 plus any parts. If the rest of the car is in good shape, it's worth it.
Re: Is it worth it?
Can you afford to do a lot to it? If so and it is really as nice as you say (otherwise), then have the motor rebuilt to a nice 383 with a good heads/cam combo to go into it. Don't forget you're going to need some good headers, exhaust, torque converter, & a custom tune. It won't be cheap though...
You could always just pay the going rate for the head gasket fix, but you'll still have just a stock 350 in there. Or you could sell it for cheap and spend the $$$ to buy another nice LT1 without any problems...
Either way, this will cost some money if you want one of these cars...
