Worried about head gaskets....

Hey,

I just installed my impala head gaskets, and one was with the part number facing up, and the other was with the part number facing down. The two sides seem pretty similar, but the more I think about it, the more I am worried I shouldve installed them both with the part number facing down. How have you guys installed yours? There is nothing on them that says this side up or anything like that.

I have not done them myself, but this is what i can contribute.
The immpy head G's are for an Iron block to Iron head seal, so both sides of the gasket are doing the same thing as far as their use on an immpy engine. I am drawing a blank right now as to what year f-body lt1's switched to the Aluminium heads so i dunno if the difference in metel applies to you......that said, i dont see there being a problem with how you used them concidering/assuming they lined up with everything fine.
I am interested to see someone with more info on this says.

The f-body never switched to aluminum heads. They all always had aluminum heads.

Hmm...well I would have at least been consistent and installed them both with the printing up or down, if I did not know. I guess this way, you have a chance of one of them being right. Maybe it does not matter, but usually there is an "up" side for head gaskets.
I have not seen the Impala gaskets, but I know the FelPros say "up" on one side.

Ok, well now I am happy to know the truth. I was under the impression that they were iron at the first few years because of a phone conversation I had with the performance tech at Jasper rebuilt engines.

Hmm, I guess I will just finish throwing her together and see how it goes. I was thinking that if it was that big of a deal, GM usually marks one side to face up, and since the impala's had iron heads anyways, maybe I will be ok like this. I'll let you know how it goes after I finish it up this weekend.
Thanks,
Brandon
