at witts end... WILL NOT RUN RIGHT!

So I put heads and a cam on. Did this a few weeks ago, haven't been able to drive since really.

Thought I needed a tune, so I got that out of the way.

Car still ran like a dog, so did a vacuum check. Had 8 in.

So did a compression test. 0 on a cylinder, did an air test, found an exhaust valve leak.

Pulled the head and replaced the valve, did a leak test, head was sound.

Put it all together, adjusted the valves today.

Started the car up, purred like a mean cat, and revved like a rabid dog. I was pumped.

Shut the car off, put the valve cover on, started it up again.

GARBAGE. WILL NOT REV, FLOOR IT AND RPM'S DON'T MOVE.

I can't figure out WHAT IN THE F*$& CHANGED in that two minutes time!

NO SES light. I did a compression test again, and I got 220, 205, 210, and 200 on 1 3 5 and 7. This is pissing me off beyond belief.

Went from running smooth and revving like a beast to being dead again. This is unbelievable. I have no idea where to check for why it's acting like this now. Only thing I can think of is opti. All i did was put the valve cover back on, what could have changed in that amount of time?????????????

Bummer: you didn't knock off any sensor plugs or get the intake plenum on crooked (at the bottom)?? How's the oil pressure? get all those rockers on correctly and adjusted accordingly. Guess you need to determine if inside or outside of the block and go from there.

Good luck.

Everything is plugged in, no sensors missing, valve adjustment is very questionable. That's the only thing I can think of. I'm waiting for my neighbor to get home to ask if he'll do it for me. He's really cool and I know if he does it, it'll be perfect and I can drop that as being a problem.

I was worried I may have bent another valve somehow.

Compression was.

1 - 220
2 - 200
3 - 210
4 - 200
5 - 205
6 - 205
7- 200
8 - 210

I just can't figure out what went wrong from the time I shut it off to the when I put the VC back on. It was like 2 minutes, literally.

Only thing I can guess is that some of the lifters were dead or something, and after running for a few minutes, they pumped up and now the lash is too tight.

No SES light either.

Good idea: adjust the lifters with the engine off first. Then if it is too noisey you might be finish it off by making minor adjustments. Too loose or too tight will affect perfomance. Use Shoe box's site if you need some guidance on the adjustment procedure. I'd start with aound 1/2 turn past 0. Should put you in the best position to get you back on track. You can always back them off a hair or tighten up a hair later. JMHO
