Wiring Harness Question(LT1 in a thirgen)

Well to start off I just got a 94 LT1 out of a Impala SS. He had a LT1 out of a 95 T/A swapped in. I know I ended up with the f body MAF, but other than that I am not sure(if anyone knows how to tell the difference in accessories and wiring let me know.

Anyway, we just pulled a LT1 out of a wrecked 93 z28 my cousin just bought. I noticed that part of the harness that is still in the car has the fan wiring, and fuses and relays for various things including fans and injectors. I dont have that harness for mine, just the engine part. Will I have to buy that part of the harness to make it work?

Thanks

Ben

Well, I figured out that my wiring harness is out of the Trans Am. Does anyone know where I could get the piece of the harness that connects to the opti from that plug in between injectors 2 and 4? I dont have it for some reason. Also, does anyone know if I do need the rest of the harness that has the fuses, fan plugs, relays, accessories, ect...?

Thanks

Ben

If I were in your situation, I think I would just scrap the OEM wiring harness, and go with a Painless or American Auto Wire (Painless prefered, we used an AAW harness once before; I was not impressed). The Painless harness should have provisions for fans and everything included. Give them a call. It may be worth the few extra $$$ for the simplicity over the OEM harness. IMO.

Well, if the motor will run fine with this one I will do it. The fans are not a big problem because I already have them wired up in the car to work without the computer. I have a temp sensor in the radiator. It is hooked to an adjustable relay so I can adjust what temp the fan comes on. I have the other one wired up to a switch via relay. I just need to know what all I need for the motor to run.

Yeah, I think I found it on the part numbers section of your page. I think it was 60 or 70 bucks. Do you know about the part of the harness that includes the fuse/relay box and the fans and such? I dont have that and unless I can get it from a junkyard, I may end up having to just go with a painless harness or something. Do you know if that part of the harness is needed or if the motor can run without it?

Well, the fuse/relay panel provides power for the coil, injectors, a/c, etc. If you can rig a way to power/fuse all that stuff, then you don't need it.

Well, do you happen to have a part number for that section of the harness that has the fuse/relay box on it? I wont need the air conditioning stuff, and can do without the fan stuff, but I obviously need to have the injector and coil stuff. If I can get that section of harness, and pay less than what a painless harness will cost me(I think its about 450) then I would like to go that route. would it be possible to wire in that fuse/relay panel, or do I need other stuff of that piece of harness?

Thanks

There are many variations of the harness by year and what options were on the car. They don't sell a small piece of the harness that just has the fuse/relay panel on it. The part of the harnes that does have it on there is $700 list and ~$400 wholesale.

I would either go to a salvage yard to get a harness or get a factory manual and figure out what I needed and make my own.

Well, I called a couple of the local junk yards. One said that they dont sell wiring, and I asked what if I took it out myself and he said nope, we just chop it out. What an *** hole. I would be willing to pay and do the work for something they dont usually make money off of and he wont let me. Anyway, I called the other, and they had 96 caprice but that was it other than a v6 Firebird. I know the 96 is obdII, but will this part of the harness be compatable?

You might try these people if you don't have any luck locally. Good to deal with too.

I emailed speed automotive. They said that they sell it for 100 plus shipping so thats not to bad at least. They kept saying that it was the coplete underhood harness. Do you think that that means everything but the engine harness or would that be included too? The reason I was wondering is because I am also missing that wire from the harness to the opti. I can buy that seperate if it doest come with what I buy from them though. I replied to them and asked them but havent got a response yet.

Thanks

Ben
