Talking Winter mods complete, Heads/GM847 cam/RT catback

Well I finished my winter mods today and its a whole new car

Ported LT1 heads
GM 847 camshaft
30lb SVO injectors
MSD 6A ignition
Random Technology catback
PCMforless tuning

The specs on the cam are 234/242 and all my fears about it being too big were laid to rest when I drove it. The powerband starts at 2500rpm and pulls like crazy all the way up to 6800 where my rev limiter is set, and cam surge isn't too bad, infact there less cam surge then what I had with the ZZ-409 cam and stock heads. At 1/4 throttle it will pin you to the seat, and no traction up to about 70mph. I had street tires on though, usually I have drag radials on all summer long. And the Random Tech cat-back is very loud at WOT, after all its a straight through muffler. However I did run into fitment issues with this catback. One of the muffler hangers was welded on in the wrong position and my RH tailpipe is about 2 inches longer than my left, but that can be fixed.

I'll have dyno numbers next week

Some guys have all the luck
Congratulations man.
I have the tpis zz9 (212/226/112)
I've got a bigger cam waiting to be installed, but I need some heads 1st. Plus I want to get some FLPs in April if nothing unexpected comes up.
What type of headers are you using?

Just curious, what made you decide to get a GM cam? Those seem like nice specs, kind of inbetween the two CC cams. What are the lift numbers? I wonder how they compare to an Xtreme comp cam in lobe ramp acceleration?

Yes I do have headers, Hooker LTs and almost every bolt-on you can buy for an LT1. The specs on the specs on the cam is 234/242 and lift is .539/.558 with 1.5 promagnum roller rockers (.575/.595 with 1.6 rockers) and 112 lobe seperation. The GM847 cam is actually made by Crane. Its the Crane Powermax 119841 and I chose it because I wanted something bigger than the ZZ-409 and since I work for a GM dealer I paid 200$ for it, also its a billet cam. Hey Aaron, I'll be heading out to BigShot Dyno friday after work. So far Gary and Ryan might shwo up, I haven't heard any word from Jason yet. If you want to, come out I'll be there from 6pm.

Congrats!

I ran this cam last summer and made 346RWHP with stock heads. I had the heads ported and jumped to 395RWHP with out any tuning I have a A4 and a 12 bolt holding me back to boot so I was VERY happy.

right now I am shifting at 6,900. Ran 11.85@114 spinning to a 1.69 60ft.

Good luck man!

I hope to be in the neighbourhood of 400rwhp but will be satisfied with anything over 380. I was trapping 110mph last year with stock heads and the ZZ-409 cam but with the way this thing pulls I'd expect trap speed now to be closer to 118-120mph.

But there no point speculating right now, I'll know next Friday when I dyno and the week after that I'll have track times.

My rev limiter is set to 6800rpm but I won't know exactly where to shift until I dyno. I hope its down around 6000-6200rpm

well if you shift at 6,000-6,200 you will be giving up a good 20rwhp. On the shift you will drop out of the sweet spot.

With this cam my motor peaks at 6,800. The shift lands it right on top of the sweet spot and pulls real hard to next shift. Upping my shifts from 6,500 to 6,900 dropped it from 12.0 to 11.7.

Now if you have a stroker you can get away with shifting at 6,500

Again good luck man!

The heads were a spare set I had and I ported myself. Unfortunately I didn't get the flow numbers I wanted. Phil at Advanced Induction did an "econoport" job on them to fix my mistakes. Apparently you can't just read a few books on porting heads, look at a few pictures and become Joe Mondelo overnight Right now they flow:

LIFT INT EXH
.100 - 66
.200 140 101
.300 196 136
.400 232 175
.500 254 188
.550 255 192
.600 255 194

As for sound, the cam sounds alot like the CC306. My idle is at 800rpm so it lopes quite a bit. You can tell its definately not stock
