Will a vented cap work on a non-vented?

Will a vented cap work on a non-vented?

I have a 93 and was just wonder if its possible to put a vented distrubutor cap on to replace my non-vented. Thanks, Daniel

Yes, though you won't be able to take advantage of the venting unless you convert the housing, too.

The MSD cap and rotor kit converts the 92-94 optis to vented. The kit supplies the vacuum tubing, and the instructions say to fill the vent holes (on the bottom of the opti plate) with silicone. One vacuum line goes to the intake manifold, the other goes to the intake elbow. The instructions say to punch a hole in the intake elbow for the vacuum line fitting, but I've found it's much neater to just use an elbow from a 95-97 that allready has the hole there.

There is an article written on this . See Corvette Fever, Feb,2001 PG. 20 titled "OPTI-SPARK Options" for venting these distributers. The venting harness is GM part #304688.
