Will a tranny cooler help...

after 2 tranny rebuilds in a month, my car is still having a problem with "gear hopping". It will go from one gear to the next and back while driving, really weird, anyways, i got it fixed for the most part...but after driving it for an hour, it started up again, could it be that my 3000 stall is making the fluid so hot, it cause this, and would a tranny cooler fix it???

You should always put a tranny cooler in when you install an torque converter. Im surprised that you didnt put one in, the stall you have is more than a thousand over stock. I would definitely recommend a tranny cooler. Check out summit they are pretty cheap...go B&M. That is what I have...works nice and relatively easy to install.

Tranny coolers are always a good idea. I say even a stock Z28 should have one installed, if the owner likes to do any performance driving at all.

I say you definately need one. My Z was wearing one.

Well a tranny cooler is definity needed although i don't think that it is your problem. But get it and put it on and maybe you will get lucky.I have read on here that peaple have had problems when going to a high stall converter on a obd1 car,but it usually only has problems when at WOT so i am not sure if that is your problem or not.

Before you do that

Before you just install the transcooler take your radiator out and flush the entire original passages of the trans fluid. Your original passages may have shavings or debris and that is going to scr** your trans back up at any given time. If you can have a professional trans line/radiator passage flush ----do that. If not your trans cooler might clog up as well and it will be back to square one. Think about it. Hope this lightens your day and troubles up. ---Pablo
