I'm about to install some edelbrock shorty headers that I got used, do I have to buy bolts or will the stock manifold bolts work?

 

yes but i wouldnt. Just buy a set of Breslin's.

I say yes. They will NOT come out on you if you tighten them right.

To answer the original question, NO, the original bolts with their 9/16" heads will not fit. New headers come with 7/16 head bolts. I'm satisfied with my stainless ARP header bolts and they use 3/8 socket for more clearance.

 

Stainless ARP's here too, no problemo.

 

Only TPiS longtube headers use manifold type bolts with 9/16 heads.They have tubes welded on where other brands have just holes in the flange. Most are 3" but a couple are 2".
Not too many guys running them as they're in the Kooks price range.

 

i dont see any on there for sale for lt1s it might be my bad eyes all i see are ls1 style bolts they the same?

 

I have the ARP's also and haven't had to re-tighten them any. I reccomend them VERY much.

Go Breslin. I would get #600-101 1" length, 3/8" Height, but the length you want may depend on which header you are getting.

 

IMO, I would advise against the Breslins. A friend of mine ended up stripping the small allen bolt in the middle and made it almost impossible to remove the bolt. Seems like so much work when a standard 1" ARP stainless bolt will work just fine. When you have headers, it's easy to re-tighten them anyway after a heat cycle or two. I'm using stainless ARPs, and wouldn't use any other bolt, especially for that price.
