I am running slp shorty's and a cut-out on my 96 and i love the sound i get through the cats. I have had people ask me what i have done to make it sound so good and i don't think that i am loosing to much power with the duel cats. I also don't get carbon left on my car.

I have Mac mids, bullet muffler in place of cat, and magnaflow catback and I love it. It doesnt sound raspy and has a nice tone to it at idle, not too loud, and if you get on it it screams pretty good. And if done right, the bullet muffler is easily interchangable with a cat.

 

This may be a consideration. Is it like a glass pack? Is it hollow?

Why do some cars sound so bad without a cat. Obviosly it wasnt like this in the old days.

 

I am running Hooker Equal Length headers with a gutted cat and a 3" Hooker Catback and it sounds AWESOME! Not too loud while cruising but still plenty loud to turn everyone's head. It crackles when you hit high RPM's and them let off the gas.

 

I have MAC mids and a Borla, 3/4 open...the car sounds great everywhere but between 2000-2400 RPM. It is extremely raspy between these engine speeds, and if this will bother you, I suggest getting cats. Good Luck...

 

I run Slp mids, no cat and Magnaflow catback. With this combo it was way too loud and raspy. I had my exhaust guy put a metal disc into the right exhaust pipe, before the tip, nearly closing off the right exit so that all exhaust goes through the muffler. Now it sounds alot better and its not near as loud. It sounds tuned now rather than a glass pack at wot.

 

I have the RK Sports with Hooker cat-back, I gutted my cat when I hit it hard enough on a speed bump to break it up inside. It sounded like crap, replaced it with ORP, sounded better but kind of raspy at mid RPMs. I ended up with a Carsound cat mainly because I have a white car and with no cat it turned the back of my car yellow and was a bitch to get clean. I get compliments on the sound all the time with the cat and never a compliment without it.
