Will my 4L60E survive??

I just bought a nitrous wet kit and plan on spraying a 100 shot every now and then. I have an A4 with about 76,000 miles and a shift kit along with a 2600 stall converter. The tranny is going to have new fluid and filter when it goes back in. Tranny worked fine when i took it out for the engine swap. Can the 4L60E take that much and be alright??

Can't say for sure, the more power over stock, the more likely stuff is to break.

But nitrous isn't really as tough on the tranny as other stuff is, mainly launching on slicks. Sudden changes in torque are much harder on the drivetrain- it's not how much power, it's more how much jerking is involved.

To be safe you could always add a tranny cooler in there to keep things cool, unless you already have one? Higher stall than stock one is generally recommended anyway because everything heats up more.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but I doubt it. I had a relatively stock engine and mine started going at 75k. My friends 97 also went out at 80K. So besides the n2o, your already on that bubble. But hey, thats life. "Sometimes you gotta say WTF and take some chances."

Yes but most people consider it inadequate when you start making modifications, especially an aftermarket torque converter- the increased stall speed can cause a lot more friction in the fluid, heating up much quicker.

Not trying to tell you what to do but it might be good insurance against problems... or at least hold off the inevitable for a while.

Sorry to rain on your parade but it isn't going to last...

I had a rebuilt 4l60e with about 5k on the rebuild and a shiftkit.

I added CAI, 3.73's, full exhaust, bigger rims, full suspension, computer tuning, and shot it.

My 3-4 is shot just like what happens to 700R4's.

For a while I was drivin the Z around town in 1-2 with 3.73's!

I think I hurt somthing in my ignition doing it because it started running all rough and ****ty besides the fact that it has new ngk's and taylor wires, new ignition module etc but anyway

the 4l60e sucks unless it is rebuilt correctly. Do this..

Buy a built up "bulletproof" transmition and dont worry about it at all. Anything less then bulletproof is an accident waiting to happen...literally...

Yeah i just got my 4l60e rebuilt for the third time. The first time it went was 74k second was 100k and i'm not putting down insane amounts of power either. This time i did it right and went to east side performance and because i put the vig 3200 stall in there i went with the b&m tranny cooler and i noticed a huge difference in temp (i have a tranny temp gauge). DJK19...your around my area i don't think i have ever run into you.....where abouts you hang/from?

ok now maybe my trany is special or somthing but i know that the stock trany will hol da 100 and a 2600 stall al day long cause i got a 2400 stall and was doin 150 and i havnt had my trany break and i have 115k on it and i run mid 12s motor so i do beleive that your trany will be fine, but i would invest in a aftermarket trany cooler from autozone or some thing cause heat will burn up the trany but if you got the cooler there shouldnt be any problems. good luck

Trannies are like the 10 bolt.(well sorta). I know several ls1 guys runs low 11's on stock tranny and stock rear end and surviving, but the majority crap out. I'd recommend getting a good build and not a local cheap build. <----thats why people have problems over and over, they get a crappy build, even if its the shop's "perfomance build". Some of the best are FLP, Frank(12scndz on here), and I've been hearing good things about CM's tranny's also. Do it right when you do it.

What have I been told is that you should run a window switch if you going to run nitrous, because you don't want to spray through your shifts with the stock tranny, that will kill it very fast . You should be ok if stop spray'n just before your car shifts because then it will be shifting at the normal cars hp.
