Will a LT4KM help me THAT much.
Will a LT4KM help me THAT much.
I dont really want to spend an uneeded 45 if i dont have to but if i will gain something then i will. I have Headers, and 1.6rr's so would an LT4KM do anything noticable?

Before I did mine I saw on the scanner a knock retard of upto 14* degrees during a short WOT.
After a sparkplug went bad I did the wires...replaced that one sparkplug, O2's and dropped in an LT4 knock module. Did another WOT and the knock retard was gone!!! SOTP feel? none however.
A few days ago I logged another WOT run and got 5* degree knock retard at the precise moment the PCM went into enriched mode. I pushed the gas pedal slowly up and thats how I caught it.... Looking at the log I noticed the Injector "ON" time went up considerably at that moment. I am suspecting a momentary Fuel Starvation or PCM OEM programing problem. It only happened at that precise switchover moment and for a very brief period I got a small knock count... after that it ran like a champ.
Use the LT4 module to filter out engine noise but it wont fix an existing problem. Since you have roller rockers I think you would defenetely need. are you getting any knock retard? if you are not then dont bother. If you are try one... you cant go wrong anyways.

Re: Will a LT4KM help me THAT much.
The LT4 KM helps to eliminate false knock caused by mechanical noise (RR's and headers). False knock will cause the computer to pull timing and thereby decrease the car's performance. Real knock (pinging) that is caused by bad gas, need for a tune-up or a part failure will not be "cured" bt a LT4 KM; you need to fix/tune-up your car.

Do a search on the board and find out the resistor # to put it in line to the computer.This will elimanate any false knock to retard the timing.It tricks the computer. The sound of the exhaust in the headers or a noisy valve train will cause spark retard,it's called false knock.
Don't waste your money on a knock module if you think you have false knock,it won't cure it and you will have to do the resistor anyway or live with the retard.

Re: Will a LT4KM help me THAT much.
It appears i had false knock. I just put in the lt4km and its a whole new car. I can really feel the mods now and a definate SOTP feeling. Im curious how much it will help at the track. Last time i went i ran a 13.2.
Re: Will a LT4KM help me THAT much.
Like I said,I didn't think that would fix it. Get the number for the resistor and go to Radio Shack and get it and two butt connecters for about $7.00 and fix it.

Hi guys I am gunna butt in again....
In my previous reply to this post...(see above) I stated I had an "SOTP" of none after I installed my LT4KM but what I forgot to mention is that I had logged a few WOT runs from 0 to 65 mph on (on empty highway that is
)
and I can clearly see on the log where the acceleration curb was greatly diminished at the moment when I had knock retard and knock count.
Point being is.. if you have false knock, even if just once the PCM will pull timing and your acceleration will diminish in relationship with the amount of timing thats pulled. The LT4 knock module will still detect actual engine knock but being less sensitive will be less prone to pick up engine noise and give you a knock count leading to timing to Knock retard... (no I am not calling you a retard
)
From my own experience... the few times I have had knock re-retard
has never been more than 3 to 4* degrees and although I did not hear engine knock per say... I am sure it wasnt a false reading. so Previous to my LT4 knock I was getting an insane amount now barely any and only under heavy acceleration..
I hope the book I just wrote here helps you in any way
