will i feel a difference with HOTCAM???

i already ordered the kit, and probably installing this weekend. i was just wondering what kind of noticable performance i should see!? i dont race the car, and will never take to a dyno... so numbers really arent that important to me. what i really want to know is if there is a SOTP difference?! anyone who installed the kit... did you notice a big difference? did your car pull harder? just looking for any info! i just cant wait to get it in... just hoping its worth it!!!!! thanks!

sence you dont want to dyno it or really race it. it doesnt sound like your out for the ungodly power the rest of us are looking for. so i think you will be real happy with the hot cam some tuning and headers, even shorties would help you.

and you wouldnt need to touch the heads.

I just got mine back from the hotcam install last week and YES you can def feel a difference. Not so much down low but after 4000 rpms you just feel something pushing you back in your seat!! What timing chain are you using?? I got the LT4 extreme duty. I also got it tuned and she runs alot smoother now. I got 35 rwhp after the camkit and tuning. Which from what i understand is pretty good. Good luck with the cam. IMO i think its definately worth it.

You will definitely notice the difference in power, but ONLY if u get the car properly tuned. I ran my car with the cam kit for awhile without tuning, and the thing was running so rich it was running like crap. After the cam kit install and good tuning, u can expect anywhere from 30-40 HSP, depending on ur other mods.

Have you ever been racing an LS1? Around 70-80 mph, they just scoot along and leave most LT1's behind. Well, with the hotcam kit, when the cocky LS1 driver is thinking he is about to drive away, you're just sitt8ing right next to them. lol

Not unless they are cocky and modded. Then you still get left behind. Sorry, kinda a rant.

hey guys! thanks for all the replys! im just really excited about the cam! i cant wait to start the install this weekend hopefully.

im actually sticking with the stock chain. the car is only pushing 18,000 miles, so i dont really see any point of replacing. i know a lot of people buy a new "stock" chain, but i figure with my low mileage that i should be ok! hopefully!

Not so much down low but after 4000 rpms you just feel something pushing you back in your seat!!
so you didnt feel any sort of gain down low?? i shouldnt lose anything in the lower rpm's should i? i was kinda hoping for a little extra pull down in the lower rpm's as well as up top! guess i will just have to wait and see!! thanks again!

The stock timing chain is fine, but I hear that the added stresses exerted on the chain will cause a stock one to wear prematurely. I think it would be an extra measure of safety. You don't want to over stress the stock chain with added horsepower and torque... then you'll be reaching for a lot of green...

You definatley still gain more power down low but it is MORE noticeable up top. My brother drives an 02 Z28 and he said now my car has LT1 torque with LS1 top end!!! Which is a good thing if you ask anybody.

I had this exact experience last year. With the mods in the sig. we went from the onramp of the highway about 60mph up to 110mph and we were door to door, neither were pulling an inch. I dont know about his mods but he for sure had borla.

I know this is an old thread, but I was just browsing through and thought I would comment on this. With my car modded the way it is now, I outrun stock LS1's. My buddy has a 2000 LS1 SS and I pull him by about a car length or so from a dead stop of roll. We also run them way past 80 and he never reals me in. I know not all cars run the same and some cars are just faster than others. But all I know is, when I do my cam install I will be doing more than sitting beside an LS1.

Another thing. When my Z28 only had a CAI, exhaust, and shifter. I pulled on a 98 Z28. Maybe it was the driver mod. Not sure!

I agree. I was really referring to Stock vs. stock. When I had my ram air hood, SLP headers, catback, gears, and programming, I was beating most LS1's in the 1/4 by about a car or so. With my cam and heads, the few times an LS1 has ran me, I was well ahead of them (5-6 cars). Not sure about their mods though. I'll take it for what it is worth.

I noticed you said cam and heads. Did you mean headers? I didnt any head work listed in your sig, just checking. I think that with the cam alone I will pull on cars like that. Well, I hope so anyways. I have also heard that this is a good nitrous cam too.

Yes, I have some miinor head work done. It is in the sig as P&P heads. Nothing major though so, still plenty of room to grow if desired.
