As some may know, my buddy is tearing apart his engine this week and selling me his crane 227 cam, ported heads, and ported intake manifold. He also has 1.7rr that he used with no problems and I was wondering: Would the increased lift with the 1.7rr affect my smog here in Ca? I'm assuming it will should still pass easily, but I'm not a smog or cam expert by any means.

1.6rr LIFT .510/.552
1.7rr LIFT .542/.587

I'll buy the 1.7rr off him if I'll still pass smog...

 

Increased lift if it's done by having more lobe lift (and the same duration and LSA) will usually help the emissions because it reduces the overlap area. If you add rocker arm ratio it will usually increase the overlap area and make your emissions worse.

Well hopefully since this cam is pretty tame, it will still pass smog in Ca... and if not, I'll just throw my stockers back on for smog. Thanks for the info Bret!
