Will the following mods put me in the 7.9-8 NA in the 1/8 mile?

3200 vig stall
lt4 hotcam kit(not conversion)W/1.6 RR
madz28 tuning or equivalent
untouched heads

this will include the use of my present mods.

Looking to take .5 off my 1/8 mile NA time. If this wont get me there what else will be needed.
Thanks.
Rob

I could see you losing .5 easy with the listed mods above, especially since your at 8.5 already.

.5 in the 8th may be a little tough. Why don't you just up the stall and go to an XE comp cam?

Re: Will the following mods put me in the 7.9-8 NA in the 1/8 mile?

It is funny on the disparity of how much time the mods will take off. I have posted this question on another forum and have yeilded the same results. The main thing I am looking at is with a 75 shot of n2o my car ran an 8.1 in the 1/8, so that would lead me to believe that if I ad 75 horsepower(ish) that would get me real close to an 8 flat. Also, I have the vig 3200 stall already just waiting to get a built tranny to go in behind it. With the stall I have heard people take up to .3-.4 off their 1/8 time, so wouldnt that get me real close by itself?

How much horsepower gain is the norm for Hotcam and tune? flywheel/rwhp?

Thanks again for any and all input.
Rob

Unfortunately, you will have to see an average hp gain over the rpm band you are using - not just a 75 hp gain to see the same gains as a 75 shot. That's why I said to up the stall (I meant from your 3200) to something like a 3600 at least. The hotcam is a great little cam but there are better choices out there that make more power with similar driveability. I run about 7.90 on a stock setup with a 50 shot (dry). I still can't hit it out of the hole, I have to wait just about a half sec before I hit the button. Suspension mods would do me really good here because of the wheel hop I get.

How much does the car weigh? And DA has to be in your favor to get close. It took my along time to get there with alot of work. You will also need a perfect launch meaning no spinning.

I would say with the parts you have you should be in the 8.2 range.

Probably HEAVY then! I am down to 3450-3500 depending on fuel load. I have removed front/rear bumper supports and the bars associated with them. The front sway bar and brackets. !Cruise Control, !rear seats, !carpet padding, !big plastic thing on firewall, !all but 2 door speakers, !front passenger seat on race day. Skinnies. And anything else not associated with going fast is gone for the most part.
I hook very well at the tracks I go to, well, let's say they prep the track and I take advantage of it.
I know it can be done with the stock LT1 heads, I have the LT4 with some work, heck Russ E, was running 7.8s bolt on car but he was M6 and light!!
The best thing I did was get the weight off the car, that helped ET as much as getting a great TC and nailing the shift points.

He probably has to race at crappy tracks in GA and I think the 8.1 was without the cam....I hope that is right....

I think it is with stock cam. i believe he is going to be installing the following:

3200 vig stall
lt4 hotcam kit(not conversion)W/1.6 RR
madz28 tuning or equivalent

So, 8.1 isnt bad for stock cam.

Re: Will the following mods put me in the 7.9-8 NA in the 1/8 mile?

Yeah its stock cam......and the track is crap(jacksonville), nothing like a dirt entrance road.

I thought my 8.5 time is pretty good???

and 7.8 on the bottle.

The only things done to the car are in the sig.

So whats our determination here........... 8.0 or less definte, possible, unlikely.

Thanks for all the input.

To me, I can definitely see .5 sec. shaved off with a stall, cam and tuning. I think you can definitely run bottom 8's for sure (8.0-8.1).
