Will a cut out hender a LT1?

Basicly will putting on a cut out hender the preformance of the LT1 due to the lack of back pressure? Right now my car is stock, except for the flowmaster 80 series muffler and K&N air filter.

You should pick up 2 tenths and 2 mph with a cutout.

what is up with all these people saying that about LT1's, I had a mustang guy try and tell me that my 3" Y pipe and 3" cut out setup will be horrible because of the loss of backpressure and I just laughed. yet the same exact set up on my buddies car netted a gain of .6 tenths and 4 mph. With LT headers of course.

A cutout will definitely help, I can feel a bit of a difference when I run with it open. A guy in the general tech forum just posted his new h/c dyno results and he showed an improvement of almost 15rwhp by opening his exhaust cutout and bypassing his flowmaster.

Sorry, it wasn't a h/c motor, it is a cam-only with some impressive numbers.

the main reason that you feel such a difference is the cut out hurts your performance when its capped, think of the massive turbulence, the gain is very minimal unless you have somehting such as a slowmaster hindering your exhaust, a cut out is mearly a mind thing, louder = faster.

Obviously if you have a full borla exhaust on there you're not gonna notice a difference.

But if your cutting out stock exhaust and putting on LTs you'll notice a huge gain.

Stock exhaust is very restrictive.

A cutout may help or hurt. It all depends on your valvetrain and exhaust setup. My cammed car lost about 10 RWTQ and some 5 RWHP with the cutout open over a magnaflow catback.

The easiest way to tell is to put the car on the dyno and do a run with the cutout closed and open.

I wish I could, but finding a dyno shop or place I can pay to run it here in oklahoma (I live in Noble, just south of Norman/Oklahoma City) is hair pulling. I've yet to be able to find one.

Isn't it true that it might cause false knock? I would think it's possible if it's fairly close to the engine bay.
